This clip reminds me why I’ve always been willing to take the long way.

If failure is possible either way,
I’d rather fail doing something that matters to me.

Jim Carrey once described realizing that thoughts are not who we are, but something we can observe. That shift opens a feeling of freedom, where identity loosens and suffering loses its grip. The experience comes and goes, but knowing it exists changes the direction of a life.

I need to share a little story that has had BIG impact on my life recently. I received a DM from @blakemycoskie inviting me to go on a surf adventure to the Maldives. But here is the kick, I had NEVER met him OR his friends! Should I still go?? I’m so grateful I said YES because YES the surf was amazing, YES the Maldives is beautiful, BUT perhaps most important was a key life lesson I learned from @blakemycoskie : Blake understands the importance of true male relationships in a mans life. I’m not talking about other dudes you chat with at the gym or see at your kids sporting events, I’m talking about true meaningful relationships that you can dive deep into conversations, be there for each other, but also PLAY, ADVENTURE, and DO DANGEROUS THINGS together!! This has been key for my own mental health and wellness! This is my favorite form of therapy : ) I actually wasn’t going to film or make a video about this trip. But by the end of the trip I was sooo full of GRATITUDE that I decided to forgo sleep on the last night and surprise Blake and the squad on the last day with this fun THANK YOU video so we can always remember this time together. THANK YOU Blake for the invite. THANK YOU for the lasting impact you’ve already had on my life. THANK. YOU.

Matthew McConaughey shared the mental trick he uses every time life gets hard, and it is the complete opposite of everything most people do.

In this episode of No Magic Pill, he breaks down why telling yourself something will be over soon is the fastest way to fall apart, and what to tell yourself instead.

I have been thinking about this one ever since we recorded it. It is simple, it is counterintuitive, and it works.

What do you tell yourself when you are going through something hard?

If you are in your 20s or 30s, I think you should be a little delusional.

Not reckless.
Not irresponsible.

But delusional enough to believe the thing pulling at your heart might actually be there for a reason.

When I was 20, I started a laundry business at SMU because I was on crutches and could not carry my own laundry. When I was 29, I started TOMS with $3,000, no investors, and zero experience making shoes. A lot of people could have given me very logical reasons why both ideas were bad.

And honestly, they probably would have been right.

But logic is not always where aliveness lives.

Sometimes the thing that makes no sense on paper is the thing that wakes something up in you. Sometimes the passion you cannot explain is the exact thread you are supposed to follow. Sometimes the idea everyone else calls unrealistic is only unrealistic because they cannot feel what you feel when you talk about it.
Your 20s and 30s are not just for building a résumé.

They are for paying attention to what makes you feel alive.

Try things. Start things. Move cities. Take the trip. Build the weird idea. Call the person. Learn the skill. Follow the curiosity. Let yourself be bad at something long enough to get good at it.

You do not need to have the whole plan.
You do not need everyone to understand.
You do not need certainty.

You need enough courage to take the next honest step toward the life that keeps calling you.

Be practical when you need to be.

But do not become so practical that you talk yourself out of your own life.

Carpe diem.

For most of my life, I chased the things I thought would finally make me feel whole.

Success. Achievement. Recognition.

I built TOMS, gave away over 100 million shoes,

and still ended up in the darkest place of my life.

What saved me wasn’t more success.

It was realizing something I had never believed:

I am enough.

That truth changed everything.

Today, I’m launching ENOUGH

a simple reminder of your worth when you forget it.

Each set comes with two bracelets.

One for you. One to give.

And 100% of profits go to mental health organizations saving lives.

I started TOMS at 29, sold it at 43, and fell into the deepest depression of my life at 44 because I spent 20 years tying my worth to what I achieved and no amount of success could fill that void. I had the money, the freedom, and the impact and still couldn't get out of bed because success isn't the same thing as being okay. These lessons cost me 20 years of struggle and I am sharing them so they don't cost you the same.

Had such a great conversation with @garrettgee from @thebucketlistfamily on No Magic Pill.

We talked about mental health, family, business, and what it really means to build a life around adventure, presence, and the people you love most.

Garrett has taken his family around the world, but what stood out to me most was not just the travel.

It was the intention behind it.

The way he thinks about time.

The way he thinks about his kids.

The way he thinks about building a business that supports the life he wants to live, instead of the other way around.

So many of us chase freedom for years.

Garrett is one of those people who reminds you that freedom is not just something you earn someday.

It is something you choose, design, and protect along the way.

Grateful for this conversation.

Here’s the real lesson I would put at the top of the list:

Success isn’t the same thing as being okay.

I had the success. The company, the money, the impact, the recognition. From the outside, it looked like everything I had been working toward had finally happened. But inside, I still felt empty. And that was one of the hardest truths of my life to face.

Because if success was supposed to make me feel whole, and it didn’t, then maybe success was never the thing that could do that.

I had to learn, slowly and painfully, that my worth was not something I could earn through another achievement. Not another company. Not another milestone. Not another number. Not another person’s approval.

The truth that helped save me was much simpler:

I am enough.
I have always been enough.

And so are you.

What’s one truth you needed to hear today?

I lost my friend and doctor, Dr. Nolan Williams, to suicide this week. The same man who helped pull me out of my darkest time, who dedicated his life to helping others find hope, was silently suffering himself.

I’m sharing this not because I want to, but I have to. I have to remind everyone I can how serious this is. We must be on the look out for any sign that a loved one is suffering and make it safe for them to share.

Mental illness doesn’t always look like what you think. Sometimes it looks like the person who’s helping everyone else heal.

Please check in on your friends, even the ones who seem strong.

And if you’re struggling, please don’t do it alone. You are not a burden. You are needed here.

Rest in peace, Nolan. Thank you for all you gave this world.

@blakemycoskie and Steve a gentle reminder for you.
Today is the launch of ENOUGH. I wear my bracelet as a reminder that I don’t need to be anyone else or do anything else to be enough. I am enough exactly as I am, without fulfilling any inner or outer expectations. You are enough exactly as you are. We are enough exactly as we are. Accepting ourselves exactly as we are in this moment, flaws and all, helps us take the pressure off ourselves, take small, incremental steps forward, and have compassion for all beings. @weareenough

100% of all profits from ENOUGH go to mental health organizations transforming and saving lives everyday.

My first guest on No Magic Pill is someone I have always admired @officiallymcconaughey.

We got real about losing his father, a dark year in Australia, and how he figured out who he was by going completely alone into the wilderness of his own mind.

He talks about journaling, solo walkabouts, and how he learned to purge the shame and guilt that had been holding him back for years.

This is the kind of honest conversation I built this podcast for.

Kid Cudi said it best, no matter who you are, where you are in life, or how old you are, everyone deals with some form of mental health struggle eventually. The ENOUGH bracelet exists for that moment when someone needs that little push to remember they are enough, and maybe even starts a conversation they really needed to have.
