People are more honest about themselves in what they omit than in what they include. Ask about the gap. Watch the answer, not the excuse. 2. How specific their stories get. Vague answers about "leading a team" or "solving problems" usually mean it didn't really happen that way. Specificity is the tell, the guest's name, the exact thing that broke, what they said in the moment. 3. Whether their achievements have a "we" in them anywhere.
