Hands on with the new iPhone 17 family!

Pro/Max first: When I say "what a chonk," understand that I mean it as a big 'ole compliment. By making the iPhone Air the "pretty one," Apple got to lean into stacked, brutal curves and pronounced panel lines on the Pro.

I didn't like it in the leaks, but in person? It reminds me of a muscle car, and the Cosmic Orange marks an overdue return of actual COLOR to the Pro line - possibly due to the return to aluminum. Feels like an iPhone designed by Xiaomi (but in a good way).

That aluminum build also helps with heat dissipation, combined with a new internal vapor chamber that I got to demo myself - more on this in the video.

Meanwhile, the iPhone Air tackles more fraught territory: do people actually care about a super-thin phone?

I don't know, but I will say the iPhone Air impressed me more than Samsung's Galaxy S25 Edge (pictured) on first pick-up. Its 5.6mm chassis really does feel like it shouldn't exist, in some "it's a movie prop" kinda way.

Also, while the single camera is a bummer, I appreciate that Apple didn't skimp on other features in the name of thinness. MagSafe, Camera Control, Action Button: ✅!

Both phones feature Apple's new Center Stage selfie camera: a new 18MP shooter that's square in shape, which means it can be digitally cropped to produce either portrait or landscape selfies without rotating the phone. It should also provide better stabilization in video.

The new iPhones go up for preorder on Friday, with the Air starting at $999 and Pro starting at $1099. I'm still on Apple's campus developing my first impressions; stay tuned for more (including a hands-on on YouTube)!

Sometimes my face says it all.

An afternoon of very early first impressions with the Unihertz Titan 2 has me ... skeptical that I'll find a place for it in my daily rotation.

Don't get me wrong: I love weirdness; I (obviously) love buttons ... and I even love weird rear-mounted displays (when they justify themselves - stay tuned for my Nothing Phone 3 review). But I've covered enough Unihertz keyboard phones to be tired of their odd design decisions: the modifier keys way up on the toolbelt are awful, and the nested spacebar and virtual number row were the worst elements of the BlackBerry Passport from which this phone takes the majority of its design cues.

Add in the wonky pre-release software and apparent lack of an oleophobic coating on the glass (front or back), at least on my preproduction sample here, and what you get is a compromised phone to say the least.

That said, Unihertz has also brought over some of my favorite BlackBerry features, like solid key feel and travel; a capacitive layer on the buttons that lets you scroll by swiping on the keyboard; and a faux leather backplate that makes the Titan 2 feel like the serious business tool it's emulating. And at a current Kickstarter price of $269 for early backers ... I'm keenly aware that I only have so much room to complain. The device is slated to begin deliveries in October.

Hoping to review this one after I get to the more prominent phones on my production desk. Stay tuned to MrMobile for that, and those! Anyone out there put their order in already?

Of all the phones I've handled in 2025, the Galaxy S25 Edge is ... certainly one of them.

Samsung calls it a "bold addition" to its smartphone lineup, mostly because of its 5.8 mm-thick profile. And sure, it's slimmer than its S25 and Ultra cousins (7.2 mm & 8.22 mm, respectively). The effect when held is pleasantly – if mildly – futuristic, the 6.7" AMOLED feeling too large for such a thin chassis.

To better do battle with @zacksjerryrig, Samsung focused on durability in the design: Corning's Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects the back, GG Ceramic 2 covers the front, and the two are joined by a frame made of titanium.

Powering its (unchanged) Galaxy AI & OneUI is a Snapdragon 8 Elite and either 256 or 512GB of storage, while the camera count drops to two: a 200MP main and 12MP ultra-wide. Wireless charging has been retained at 15 watts, though predictably, there's no Qi2 magnetic array in sight.

Also predictable: the 3900 mAh Li-Ion battery, which is fine – but it's hard not to wonder what added capacity a silicon-carbon pack might have brought. Wired charging still putts along at 25 watts; the phone's 163g mass is actually 1g more than the base Galaxy S25; and the Edge comes in an uninspired trio of colors whose official names don't matter when the truth is: they're black, silver, and a slightly cooler silver that Samsung calls blue (I refuse).

In short, this phone pushes no boundaries and, at $1099, seems targeted at the same customer who might otherwise choose the (vastly more interesting) Galaxy Z Flip. I recognize that foldables aren't for everyone, and I would welcome an alternative that truly redefined the landscape in the way Samsung insists it's doing. But when you remember that Motorola released a 5.2mm phone nearly a decade ago (alongside an entire ecosystem of modular accessories) ... well, it becomes a lot harder to consider the Galaxy S25 Edge a "remarkable feat of engineering."

To me, it seems more like a tentative toe in the water to validate a market that I'm not sure exists. If thin phones really do make a comeback, I'll gladly eat my hat - but I hope somebody takes a bigger swing than this.

If you know @nothing, you won't be surprised that its latest phone is somewhat polarizing. With its asymmetric camera layout, modular-looking (but not actually modular) casing grid, and new Glyph Matrix secondary display, it's a certified weirdo -- and set against a backdrop of iterative Galaxy S25s and iPhone 16s, I welcome it.

The Glyph Matrix is the natural evolution of Nothing's party-in-the-back approach to mobile. While manufacturers like Unihertz have long incorporated smartwatch-like screens into their phones, Nothing's version is more design-focused, with a monochrome pixel grid and a smattering of mini-games (spin the bottle; magic 8-ball; rock-paper-scissors) to go along with utilities like a stopwatch, clock and selfie viewfinder. Developers can also leverage an SDK to build more.

That design focus continues into the NothingOS software, which is my favorite OEM launcher - and Nothing continues another popular trend with its inclusion of a silicon carbon battery (5150mAh). A Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 and four 50MP cameras round out the broad spec sheet.

I've long said that if I weren't obsessed with foldables, a Nothing Phone would likely be my daily driver depending on its camera quality -- which frankly hasn't ever been a strength of the brand. We'll see if this phone's performance lives up to its aggressive design in a MrMobile review coming soon.

“All of these are the same device,” phone edition: the Samsung Galaxy TriFold. I’m coming up on three weeks with this device, and therefore my full review. While it’s unlocked a new dimension of mobile computing, a big part of me is excited to return to the more conventional (by comparison) Galaxy Fold7. Stay tuned, and let me know what questions you’d like me to answer in the full video! #galaxytrifold #foldable #android #samsung

Professional nerds like me have spent the past few years lambasting Samsung for resting on its laurels – and the Galaxy Flip 7 is the first evidence that the company is actually starting to listen.

Announced today at #GalaxyUnpacked, the new clamshell foldable brings Samsung up to par with Motorola in perhaps the most crucial aspect: the cover screen – aka “Flex Window.” At 4.1” it’s now slightly bigger than the Razr Ultra’s front display, with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 2600 nits. (You can still run any app you want on the cover, but Samsung continues to mandate a few extra steps to enable that functionality.)

At 13.7mm and 188g, the Flip7 is also thinner and lighter than its predecessor, while packing a larger 4300 mAh battery and a larger 6.9” inner display. Also included: a redesigned hinge that allows for a teardrop fold, diminishing the crease.

And winning the award for most niche new feature (and further proof that Samsung actually listens to consumer feedback): DeX, the desktop emulation mode, is now included! I’ll be testing that extensively when I take the Flip7 on a road trip shortly.

Price: about $1100. Review: soon!

Going "minimal" (ish) with the Minimal MP01 this weekend.

Curious beast for sure. E-paper display meets a full QWERTY keyboard and Android 14. The idea is: all the apps you need, but enough friction to prevent mindless scrolling.

This will take some getting used to.

The iKKO MindOne Pro is a tiny smartphone with some big promises, like an "AI OS" and "built-in global internet" via virtual SIM.

As you might expect, I'm far more interested in the basics. Like the fact that a square, 4" Android phone with a reversible camera and modular accessories is a thing that exists in 2026!

It doesn't skimp on some specs, with IP54 dust & splash resistance, a 50MP camera sensor, Bluetooth 5.2/WiFi/GPS, and a sapphire cover protecting the AMOLED panel (which I strongly suspect is the same display component found on the bottom half of the old LG Wing). Unfortunately, its Helio G99 processor is far from top-of-the-line, confining it to 4G speeds and almost certainly limiting the endurance provided by the 2200 mAh battery. Tough to swallow for $429.

I'm testing it mainly in its Android 15 operating mode, with my own physical SIM installed – but let me know how interested you are/n't in the "Free Built-in AI Internet" and I'll see if I trust the Terms of Service enough to give it a try 😄

Video coming soon to the MrMobile YouTube channel. Review device provided by iKKO.

Tired of featureless glass and metal phones? Good *lord* so am I – and so is Motorola.

The new #razr family leans even harder into CMF, with options across all three (!) models for faux leather or satin, Alcantara, textured plastic ... and WOOD! (I’ve been waiting ten years for another wooden phone.)

The top-shelf Razr Ultra is pricey at ~$1300, but it’s also a true no-compromise flagship flip:

🔥 Snapdragon 8 Elite
🧠 16GB/512, 16GB/1TB
📸 3x 50MP (w/Ultrawide!)
🔋 4700 mAh, 68W 🔌, 30W 🛜
💦 IP48
📺 7” 4500nit / 4” 3000nit
📖 Titanium-reinforced hinge

Plus ... did I mention the wood? 😄

This being 2025, there’s also the requisite ✨AI✨ - complete with dedicated button (on the Ultra). Most of it is 🙄 – BUT I’m intrigued by “Look & Talk.” Glance at the Razr sitting on a desk (in tabletop or tent mode) and it will wake up and listen for a command or query.

Pre-orders open for all three models May 7. Reviews coming soon! #razr2025 #razrultra #motorola #flipphone

Feels like I’m saying it a lot this year: this phone is something you need to hold to understand. True facts: I was reaching for my Galaxy Fold 6 at #GalaxyUnpacked when I accidentally picked up the Fold 7 instead. My reaction? “Oh what the [EXPLETIVE]?”

Yep, it’s that much lighter and thinner, at 215g and 8.9mm folded. It’s also got a larger 8” inner display (up from 7.8” last year) with a redesigned hinge that allows for a crease less pronounced than we’ve ever seen from Samsung. The company really went the extra mile this time, including thicker ultra-thin glass, new adhesives and a titanium mesh reinforcement layer in place of the old carbon fiber. The days of the U-shaped “gutter fold” are finally behind us!

The Fold7 also packs a 200MP primary camera, flanked by a 10MP 3x Telephoto, 12MP ultrawide with autofocus, and two 10MP selfie cameras.

On the down side, the Li-Ion battery capacity remains the same at 4400 mAh (why won’t Samsung get aboard the silicon-carbon train?) and the inner selfie camera is no longer hidden, probably due to quality concerns or the new 100-degree FOV (or both). Oh: and it costs $1999.

Review coming soon, but I think you can already tell that, for the first time in a great while, I’m excited for the new Galaxy Fold. Welcome back, Samsung!

Stop me if you've heard this already this week: Samsung's latest [gadget] is way better than its last one. 😄

Those are my first impressions, anyway, after a day with the Galaxy Watch 8 Classic on my wrist. The stainless steel and stitched faux leather play perfectly together, offsetting the odd "circle-on-a-squircle" mesh of shapes that make up the case. The on-again, off-again rotating bezel has made yet another return (just leave it there, Samsung!) and the traditional pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock are now joined by a Quick Button in the middle, imported from last year's underwhelming Galaxy Watch Ultra. The display peaks at 3000 nits; there's Gemini onboard; and the watch packs more health and heart tracking than ever.

The downsides (so far) include a battery that doesn't last much past a day with AOD on; some puzzling design decisions on the interface (pill shapes, on a circle-and-squircle watch?); and a lug design that's been changed yet again, rendering past bracelets and bands unfittable to this generation – irritating compromises at a $449 price point.

How the balance will shake out is something I'll save for the full review on the MrMobile YouTube channel, coming soon. Meantime, I'm gonna try to get some sleep (just kidding! Flying out to Pittsburgh tomorrow to review the Flip7! 😄🫠)

😄🫠) #GalaxyUnpacked #GalaxyWatch8Classic #GalaxyWatch #WearOS #smartwatch #wearabletech #watches
103 miles across the Atlantic: complete!

Seven days after departing New York aboard @cunardline's Queen Mary 2, around 1p GMT on 23 October, I completed Dr. John Finley's walking challenge from 1926, besting the 100 miles he walked aboard the Adriatic during a similar crossing. It was not easy.

Full YouTube video (featuring the Google Pixel Watch 4 and Apple Watch Ultra 3) coming soon! For now, I need to spend a few days not-walking ... at least, not on Queen Mary 2's promenade deck 😄

Stay tuned for the full video! #atlanticcrossing #walking

The #Pixel10ProFold is the first dust-tight foldable, and the first with MagSafe. Those are huge, overdue upgrades; we’ve never seen IP68 on a folding phone, and PixelSnap opens it up to a broad and deep ecosystem of magnetic accessories. It’s nice to see Google demonstrating this kind of hardware leadership, and I hope its OEM partners decide to follow that lead with future smartphones.

Sadly, the 10 Pro Fold’s cameras are almost identical to the optics on the 9 Pro Fold (which weren’t a big hit last year, either, compared to the non-folding Pixel 9 devices). Still photos are excellent, but as for video ... after spending a few weeks with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, I can’t call the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s camcorder anything but deeply disappointing. The Pixel is also heavy and bulky compared to Samsung’s svelte Galaxy Fold7, and it also showcases more software stumbles than any $1799 device should.

So while I might still carry it (as a Pixel/foldable fan) ... I’m not sure who else should.

These screenshots are from my full review, which is now live at MrMobile on both YouTube and Nebula!

Speaking of brands that send me things: @gridstudiocc has been in the background of hundreds of my videos over the years, but it’s been a while since I gave them a proper shout. I’ve just added the classic Game Boy (fun fact: the only Nintendo handheld I’ve ever owned besides the Switch) and the iPod Classic to the collection, taking their rightful place alongside the RAZRs, Nokias and BlackBerrys that make up my mobile-tech history. It’s a simple idea, tacking exploded devices to a nice-looking frame, but it’s a good one.

There's @nothing worse than dull design - and the first headphones from the company of the same name don't disappoint. Alongside the more controversial Nothing Phone (3), the $299 Headphone (1) seems tamer by comparison - but put them alongside a more traditional Bose or Sony headset and their transparent blocky enclosure really stands out.

I'm less audiophile than a design enthusiast, so while I appreciate the sound these cans kick out (insert "clean," "balanced," "open" cliché here) I'm much more impressed by the thought that went into the controls. There are separate switches for volume, track control, power, Bluetooth pairing and smart features, all of them different under a finger so you can feel them out without looking. They've also got solid battery life (haven't run them dry yet, even after 4 days) and good comfort - though the metal-on-metal scraping when carried in a hand can grate on the nerves.

I'll have more thoughts in my Phone (3) review video coming soon!

I was invited by @nintendoamerica to spend a day with the Switch 2 – and it was (almost) every bit the sequel I'd been waiting for. #switch2 #nintendoswitch2 🎥: @hayatohuseman
