PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD IS NOW CLOSED ❌

We have 11 days left. Can we make it to 100k?!

The Roadless Rule isn’t a “lock up the land” policy. It’s not just a bunch of land that’s arbitrarily “off limits.” No, it ensures our forests are protected and continue to work for us. This rule has protected 58+ million acres of national forests in the United States (nearly 30% of our total national forest land) from reckless road-building and large-scale logging since 2001.

These lands filter drinking water for 180 million Americans, provide habitat for countless species, act as some of our most powerful carbon sinks, and anchor outdoor recreation economies that sustain communities nationwide. It’s been one of the most popular and most successful environmental regulations in the United States for more than two decades.

😤 But right now, those protections are at risk. The USDA has opened a fast-tracked process to repeal the Roadless Rule, beginning with a short 21-day comment window that ends September 19, 2025. It’s the first step in a longer process, but what we say now matters. Agencies are legally required to read and respond to substantive public comments, and history shows that strong, thoughtful input can change outcomes.

🚨HOW TO LEAVE A COMMENT: Click the link in my bio OR go to Regulations.gov and search for Docket FS-2025-0001-0001.

🗓️ Deadline: September 19, 2025

‼️ It’s not just a numbers game. The substance of your comment matters.

- Be personal: Share who you are and why roadless forests matter to you.
- Be specific: Point to impacts (wildlife, wildfire, water, recreation, Indigenous use).
- Use evidence: Cite data, research, or local knowledge.
- Offer alternatives: Suggest better solutions instead of just opposing repeal.
- Keep it respectful and clear. Derogatory comments or ones with profanity will be discarded.
- substance matters more than length.

All of my source are linked in my blog post about this, linked in my bio.

NOTE: I am not being paid or incentivized to post about this.

Recent reports found that at least $67 million in National Park Service entrance fees have been redirected toward renovation (“beautification”) projects in Washington, D.C., including ornamental fountains and the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool ahead of Trump’s 4th of July celebrations. All the while, our national parks are facing major staffing shortages, deferred maintenance backlogs, and budget cuts.

😡 According to the report, more than 75% of NPS recreation fees between December 2025 and March 2026 went toward these D.C. projects. (Note: that’s 75% of the 20% of what’s allowed to go to sites without entry fees) ‼️

This man is stealing from the American people. But then again, what did we expect from a felon?

‼️ Want to help? ‼️
* Visit during off-peak times and consider delaying your park visit until shoulder season
* Pick up after yourself (and others)
* Plan ahead & prepare
* Follow the rules
* Give rangers a smile & be kind
* Leave wildlife alone
* Learn the history of the land you’re on
* Show up to ranger programs
* Say thank you or write thank you notes
* Call your representatives!!!!!!
* Support park organizations like the National Parks Conservation Association and National Park Foundation
* Follow your favorite parks online
* Shop local in gateway communities
* Use your platform to spread accurate, responsible information

What’s at stake:

🌲 Finalized in 2024, the Public Lands Rule safeguards 245 million acres of public BLM land, ensuring clean water, healthy ecosystems, and open access to nature alongside responsible resource use.

⚠️ Trump’s DOI wants to wipe it off the books, favoring drilling & mining w/ minimal oversight while putting ecosystems, cultural heritage & Indigenous communities at risk.

‼️Steve Pearce’s nomination to lead BLM is BAD news for our lands. A big oil ally & promoter of Trump’s big lie, Pearce puts both our public lands & democracy at risk.

Newborn camping essentials✨🏕️👶🏼

1️⃣ Bouncer - Keeps baby entertained + gives you a safe place to put them down. We LOVE the @babybjorn bouncer (we got ours off Marketplace), but any bouncer you use at home will also work at camp!

2️⃣ Portable sound machine - If your baby sleeps better with white noise, I highly recommend getting a @hatchforbabysleep Go sound machine. We use it both at home and while camping/traveling.

3️⃣ Travel bassinet - I’m very anxious when it comes to safe sleep, so the snuggle nest from @babydelightinc has been perfect for camping during the newborn phase. It’s lightweight and easy to set up, but also firm and solid.

4️⃣ Warm sleep sack - We use @ergopouch_usa swaddle sacks at home, so I was very excited to learn they had a 3.5 TOG option (the warmest I’ve been able to find in a 0-3 month size). I also like that you can convert the swaddle to a regular sleep sack with the arms out so you can keep using it once baby starts rolling over.

5️⃣ Fully stocked diaper caddy - The most necessary piece of gear on this list! Keeps everything organized for diaper changes so you’re not scrambling in the middle of the night.

6️⃣ Carrier - Keeps baby safe and secure while you have your hands free. Also great for hiking and other outdoor adventures. I’ve been using the @wildbird aerial carrier and love the fit and all of the different colors/prints it comes in.

Despite these protections, your public lands aren’t “locked up” and the Roadless Rule doesn’t prevent recreation. There are THOUSANDS upon thousands of recreational miles protected by the Roadless Rule. Those will be at risk if this rule is removed.

On top of that, the U.S. already has 386K+ miles of forest roads with a huge maintenance backlog of $8.4 billion, so how would they responsibly manage 58 million more acres of land while underfunded and understaffed? Spoiler alert: They won’t.

ℹ️ More info (and sources) in my pinned post and recent blog posts, linked in my bio.

🚨Take action TODAY: Leave your public comment supporting the preservation of the Roadless Rule. Click my username, then click the link in my bio OR go to Regulations.gov and search for Docket FS-2025-0001-0001.

🗓️ Deadline: September 19, 2025

🤔 But will my comment actually matter? YES! If it’s thoughtful! The USDA is required by law to consider public input before finalizing this repeal. That means your voice truly matters. Strong, evidence-based, and personal comments can shape what gets studied in the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and can help protect these forests for future generations.

First newborn camping trip was a success!✨🙌🏼🏕️

We decided to do a quick overnight trip before a longer upcoming trip to start getting the hang of things and make sure we had all of our bases covered.

Right now baby really doesn’t need much besides a safe place to sleep (I have an earlier video about our sleep system!), so getting out was pretty simple.

If you don’t camp often adding a newborn into the mix is probably tough, but if it’s something you’re already used to, a baby just adds a fun new layer of adventure!👶🏼🏕️

If you live in Colorado you know we’ve had an unseasonably warm December.🥵

We typically see temps in the 30/40s in GJ this time of year, but it’s been in the 50s all month and even got up into the 60s for a few days.😳

While I’m not a fan of the cold (and make at least one post mentioning it every year😂), I am concerned about the heat and lack of moisture.😟

My in-laws live at 9,500 ft., so they actually have some snow right now, but definitely not as much as past years.❄️

Things may turn around in the mountains over the next few months (hopefully!), but right now the snow water equivalent in every river basin in Colorado is alarmingly low.😥

There’s a lot of uncertainty at the moment (including around negotiations about the management of the Colorado River, which adds another layer of stress when it comes to water in the West), but it’s safe to say it doesn’t really feel a lot like Christmas right now!🌡️

Our national parks are being asked to do more with less. Again. 🥴 And they’re facing more budget cuts. Also again. 👎

📈 Visitation is up (323+ million visits in 2025)
📉 Funding and staffing are down (~25% of NPS staff lost since 2025 & 2027 budget cuts could slash ~25% of park operations funding with other cuts threatening even more)

The people working to protect these places are stretched thin. So if you’ve been wondering how to help, this is a great starting point.

📆 Visit during off-peak seasons & hours
🗑️ Pick up after yourself
📍 Plan ahead & prepare
📜 Follow the rules

‼️The public comment period to protect the Roadless Rule closes on September 19th!‼️

This is your last week to provide your thoughts and input to the USDA regarding their plan to rescind the Roadless Rule before they prepare a Draft Environmental Impact Statement.📝

I have an earlier post breaking down the process and what types of information to include in your comment!📣

The Roadless Rule isn’t just about preventing roads from being built or reconstructed (there are actually numerous exceptions for things like wildfire mitigation and public safety).🛣️

It’s really about preventing heedless development in some of our last remaining wild spaces. It’s about protecting watersheds, wildlife habitat, intact forests that provide vital ecosystem services, and recreation access, including over 40,000 miles of hiking trails.🌲

Remember, unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not. So use your voice while you have the chance!🗣️

‼️The public comment period to protect the Roadless Rule closes on September 19th!‼️ This is your last week to provide your thoughts and input to the USDA regarding their plan to rescind the Roadless Rule before they prepare a Draft Environmental Impact Statement.📝 I have an earlier post breaking down the process and what types of information to include in your comment!📣 The Roadless Rule isn’t just about preventing roads from being built or reconstructed (there are actually numerous exceptions for things like wildfire mitigation and public safety).🛣️ It’s really about preventing heedless development in some of our last remaining wild spaces. It’s about protecting watersheds, wildlife habitat, intact forests that provide vital ecosystem services, and recreation access, including over 40,000 miles of hiking trails.🌲 Remember, unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not. So use your voice while you have the chance!🗣️ #RoadlessRule #ForestService #EnvironmentalPolicy #NationalForests
September is Public Lands Month! As we lead up to Public Lands Day on Sept. 27th, I wanted to use this moment to reflect on how this summer has felt like an endless marathon of defending our public lands. It’s been exhausting, yes, but it’s also been energizing to see what collective action can do.

From protesting the unfair treatment of park workers and national forest employees, to calling Mike Lee and our representatives non-stop until the massive public land sell-off was removed from the Big Beautiful Bill, we’ve seen the power of people, from all sides of the political spectrum, rising up to protect the places we love. Although nature is far from nonpartisan, it is our great unifier, and I think that’s beautiful.

But the work isn’t done. As summer closes and we head into fall and winter, our public lands need us now more than ever. Let’s keep the pedal to the metal.

Right now, the biggest fight is defending the Roadless Rule. Until September 19th, the public has the chance to leave comments and speak up against this attack on 58 million acres of protected national forest land.

Check out my other posts for more context on why this matters, and click the link in my bio to submit your comment today. Together, we can make sure our lands stay protected.

We live in an era inundated with misinformation. We need to be crystal clear about what we’re talking about when we want to spur action and change. Conflating these two agencies (or even just “National Parks” and “National Forests”) is not just confusing, but it can actually be harmful to the progress we’re trying to make.

Understanding the difference between the USFS and the NPS helps people better engage in the decisions that shape public lands.

And don’t worry if you didn’t know this. I honestly learned a lot putting this carousel together! We’re all learning and growing together.

Action alert: tell the BLM you support the Public Lands Rule!✍🏼🏜️

The BLM is moving to rescind the Conservation and Landscape Health Rule (aka the Public Lands Rule), a policy that put conservation on equal footing with other land uses in management decisions.🥾

Contrary to what opponents of the rule believe, it does not prioritize conservation or take away from other uses, in fact considering the health of the land is critical to supporting other land uses, including recreation and grazing, longterm.🐄

Comments are being accepted through November 10th, so get yours in today!✍🏼

Hiking in a Park or on any public lands pays exquisite dividends in views and in joy!

Thank you @kate.outdoors for an Arches view! | Jumping for joy because I can finally enjoy the holidays after the most overwhelming month at work!✨ (🎄← the only Christmas tree I’ll be putting up this year😅)
✧
I know there are a lot of people struggling right now between the time of year and general state of the world, so I truly hope everyone has a healthy and happy holiday season, however you choose to celebrate!✨🎅🏼

Mini Cooper coming Spring 2026!✨💕🍼

This has been one of the hardest secrets to keep as someone who enjoys oversharing on the internet, so I’m very excited to finally announce that I’m pregnant!!🤰🏻

The past few months have been a whirlwind, but we could not be more excited to grow our little family!🥰

Hiking definitely looked a little different than usual this summer. We only did one big hike when I was 3 weeks (aka I wasn’t actually pregnant yet), before the first trimester symptoms came in hot.😅

Now that I’m officially in the second trimester I feel like myself again, but I definitely still prefer shorter hikes.🥾

I’m hoping to stay as active as possible throughout the pregnancy (both on + off the trail), and do my best to prepare to have a little outdoorsy beeb with us next summer!👶🏼❤️

We’ve got a major 💩 problem in the outdoors and not enough people are talking about it…

Improper human waste disposal is a massive problem on public lands across the West, and is polluting some of the most popular and iconic alpine lakes.😔

Learn what you can do to help prevent the issue from getting worse and how to protect yourself from polluted water sources in the backcountry!💦
