Bit of an appreciation post on world mental health day…
No one sees the real struggles that go on behind closed doors - and only @ally_esmaeili has truly seen me at my worst… After losing my Dad he stepped up and took care of us in ways that I will forever be grateful for. Being my best friend when I was at my lowest and constantly striving to provide safety and security to allow us to live this life with freedom will always be the most expensive gift you have given me. I know that you know how much I love you and how much you inspire and motivate me - but I don’t think I thank you enough for all that you do when no one else is looking… 🫶🏽

TOMORROW on the @weareraise podcast - we switch things up with a special host… Coral’s daughter, Ava Pearl! Recently leaving school to return to home education, Ava steps into the spotlight and takes the reins, asking Coral and Natalie a series of questions.

We get real about what’s been challenging us as mothers, what we’re working on behind the scenes, and the small (but powerful) wins that are lighting us up right now. From castor oil packs to bone broth pasta and EMF blockers, we chat about our current wellness rituals, parenting challenges and what it means to raise kids with intention.

As a young teen navigating a big life decision (leaving school to return to home education) Ava shares her personal perspective on the school system, why it wasn’t the right fit for her, and what she’s most excited to reclaim in this next chapter of freedom and creativity.

Expect real conversations on motherhood, wellness and raising conscious, curious kids, with a little extra sass, thanks to Ava!

Skin at 40 feels very different to skin in your twenties.

For me, it’s not about doing more, it’s about supporting it better.

I notice the biggest difference when I’m sleeping well, eating properly, managing stress and staying consistent with my wellness rituals. When I look after myself from the inside, my skin reflects that.

That’s why I love this from @Biossance. It works in the same supportive way. The Growth Factor Moisturizer uses biomimetic growth factor technology to help support collagen signalling, firmness and hydration as we age, without feeling heavy or overdone. It’s lightweight, cushiony and my skin genuinely feels more bouncy and supported over time.

I use it morning and night, always down the neck and it’s become one of those products I don’t really think about anymore because it just works.

Available via @lookfantastic.

As part of our 100 day challenge we’re trying to incorporate more practices as a family that get the kids into thinking about their morning routines… (In a gentle and fun way)
I saw this routine of simple ancient Chinese movements from @mikerholland and felt so inspired to try them out with the kids - just one minute of each exercise a day (so just 7 minutes a day) and they’re amazing for your nervous system, circulation and lymphatic system. So we’re trying to do it when we can together as a family - and after only a week in, I’m already obsessed ✨

Ava wanting to leave school wasn’t a decision that we took lightly as a family - she’s been talking about it for months! I think the longer she spent there, the more the novelty wore off. Her reasons (many not even mentioned above) were so valid in our eyes - and ultimately, her happiness and wellbeing are our priority, so here she is again - back with us, with the world as her school once again… ❤️

After being home educated her whole life and then deciding to try secondary school -

She couldn't understand why adults felt the need to speak down to her when she was used to them speaking to her as an equal

She didn't understand why she wasn't entitled to basic human rights - such as going to the toilet when she needed it

She said she felt like she could only really remember the information from the subjects she was actually interested in or enjoyed

She told me she felt like she didn't have time to be creative anymore as she felt so exhausted at the end of the school day after completing all her homework

In this episode of The Raise Podcast, Coral and Natalie sit down with Dr. Jenny Goodman, a pioneering doctor in ecological medicine and the author of Staying Alive in Toxic Times and Getting Healthy in Toxic Times. They talk about how environmental toxins, heavy metals, pesticides and EMFs are affecting our health, contributing to chronic illness and disrupting our hormonal balance. Dr. Goodman shares powerful detox strategies, including high-dose vitamin C, silica for aluminium detox, organic nutrition, filtered water and safe sauna use to help remove toxins and prevent re-exposure.

They also discuss the hidden dangers of fluoride, vaccines, mobile phone radiation, household toxins and how these factors are contributing to the rise in autoimmune diseases, neurodevelopmental disorders and hormonal imbalances. Dr. Goodman offers simple but impactful lifestyle changes, from eating organic and reducing EMF exposure to switching to non-toxic skincare and household products. This episode is a must-listen for anyone looking to take control of their health and thrive in today’s modern world!

Ad - I recently learnt about methylation on a podcast I was listening to and just how important understanding your genetics is for your health! Methylation ultimately affects how your body converts nutrients - so if your methylation is impaired you might not be absorbing the nutrients you need! So when @get_stride asked if I was interested in taking a DNA test I was really keen to give it a go and get a better understanding of my genetics so I can make sure I’m doing everything I can to optimise my health. We’re all different which is why generic health advice doesn’t always work for everyone. Knowing how your body works means you can make better choices — food, supplements, lifestyle. No more guessing!
If you’re keen to find out how your body works, use my code CORAL30 for 30% off your StrideDNA test. Link’s in my bio—go find out what your body’s really up to!

This is the elite last minute summer party skin prep 👌🏽 No downtime needed and gives you the best glow and tightens skin like no other imo… I had both laser genesis and aqua gold two days before we went away to Mykonos for the weekend at @grand_aesthetics_clinic with @sophiesmithskin - these two treatments are the perfect for a last minute skin glow before a trip or event (I had both before my wedding in NY too) 🤌🏽

I asked chat gpt and this is what it said:

Modern mass schooling didn’t appear because humans suddenly discovered “the best way to learn.”

It emerged during industrialisation (18th–19th centuries) to meet very specific needs:

1. Economic & industrial needs
	•	Factories needed workers who could:
	•	arrive on time
	•	follow instructions
	•	sit still for long periods
	•	perform repetitive tasks
	•	Schools mirrored factory structure:
	•	bells
	•	age-based batches
	•	standardised outputs
	•	obedience to authority

2. Nation-building
	•	Governments wanted:
	•	a shared language
	•	shared values
	•	shared national identity
	•	School became a tool for:
	•	social cohesion
	•	loyalty to the state
	•	cultural standardisation

3. Literacy for administration
	•	Reading, writing, arithmetic were essential for:
	•	bureaucracy
	•	military records
	•	taxation
	•	School efficiently scaled these skills.

4. Childcare during labour shifts
	•	As both parents moved into wage labour, children needed to be somewhere.

🧠 WHAT SCHOOL WAS NOT DESIGNED FOR

This is where the tension lies.

School was not originally designed to:
	•	nurture individual curiosity
	•	support nervous system regulation
	•	honour different learning tempos
	•	prioritise creativity or embodiment
	•	accommodate sensitive, intuitive, divergent thinkers
	•	adapt to rapid technological change

Those values are modern, but the structure largely isn’t.

⸻

🌱 MY INTERPRETIVE TAKE (NOT FACT, BUT REFLECTION)

School made sense for:
	•	an industrial economy
	•	predictable career paths
	•	linear success
	•	obedience-based systems

But we now live in a world that values:
	•	creativity
	•	adaptability
	•	emotional intelligence
	•	critical thinking
	•	entrepreneurship
	•	lifelong learning
	•	self-direction

And here’s the quiet contradiction:

We’re still educating children for a world that no longer exists.

That doesn’t make school evil.
It makes it outdated for many children.

*Just saying…

Then for an afternoon snack we had a @paleovalley meat stick which you can get from @healf, and some @crazyjackorganic dried mango which we order from @ocadouk
Late afternoon we had some cassava flour banana bread
Then for dinner we had slow cooked beef (also from @gazegillorganicsfarm)
And for dessert we had A2 raw milk ice cream which we made using our @ninjakitchenuk creami 👌🏽

In this week’s episode - we’re joined by Hannah Canavan – mother of three, home education advocate and a leading voice for educational autonomy in the UK. Hannah shares her powerful journey from working in behaviour management to raising her children outside the school system, travelling the world and championing the right to home educate.

In this raw and honest conversation, we explore what home education truly looks like (spoiler: it’s not school at home), why more families - including teachers - are walking away from the mainstream system and how the proposed Children’s Wellbeing Bill could impact educational freedom across the UK.

We also delve into mental health, neurodiversity, resilience, rebuilding confidence in children who’ve been let down by the system and how to make home education work even as a single parent. If you’re curious about homeschooling, questioning the status quo, or navigating your own parenting path, this one’s for you.

Get ready to raise some important questions about how we raise the next generation!
