I never would’ve thought going into the Olympia that the highlight of my week would be watching Ramon get his flowers.
We’ve stood side by side on that stage for years pushing each other to be better, and seeing him drop to his knees as they called his name brought tears to my eyes.
Not from sadness, but from pure joy, knowing exactly what that moment feels like, and how much work it takes to earn it.
And he earned every ounce of it.
It gave me a sense of peace and gratitude for the chapter I lived and the closure I didn’t know I needed.
You’ll be a great champion Dino🦖

This season of life is focused on being the best parents we can be, but that hasn’t made me forget you’re still the most important thing.
You’ve given so much meaning to my life, something sacred to protect, and purpose every day getting to love you and our family.
Happy Birthday❤️

This time last year looked a little different.
I will always be so grateful for the opportunity to give my all and be so focused on a singular goal.
But after a decade of that, it’s refreshing to zoom out, let go of the pressure that came along with it, and be present in all areas of life.

I don’t think the perspective I have now would@be possible without that journey.

My advice, if you’re young don’t be afraid to pour a subjectively “unhealthy” amount of time and energy into a goal / craft.
The challenge will bring your life purpose, and you’ll have plenty of time to figure out what meaning you want to apply to it.

Because no matter where it leads, you’ll never regret giving your best and building yourself through the process.

It’s hard to fully understand unconditional love until life changes, the things you once tied yourself to fall away, and you realize you are still deeply loved.

I dedicated a lot of my life to things that are replaceable, but a year ago today, I dedicated myself to the most irreplaceable part of me.

A lot has changed over the last few years, but what will never change is how easy you are to love, how honored I am to be the one who gets to love you, and how fiercely I will protect what we have.

And somehow, through every season, you only become more beautiful to me, not just in the way you look, but in the way you love, mother, and carry our family.

Every high and every low brings me back to choosing you more.

I promise to spend a lifetime getting better at loving you, protecting you, and always choosing you.

For 15 years I’ve trained in a way where I know exactly what I’m doing. The movements are always controlled and you learn how to make things look smooth even when they’re hard.

Now even the “easy” things feel awkward.

I still love bodybuilding. I always will. It built me, physically and mentally. And it’ll always be a part of how I train.

But training / moving only in those straight, controlled planes of motion comes with a cost. You get strong, but you also get stiff. I lost any resemblance rhythm and fluidity without even realizing it.

So now I’m in the season of relearning how to move like a human again I’m calling this training arc “learning how to walk”🫠

A long way to go, but it feels good, mentally and physically, to be doing something uncomfortable again.

Been sick probably half of December, but hey I guess it’s a way to get lean during the holidays.
Felt good to get back in the gym and move my body (even if it’s more embarrassing movements I suck at).
I am dedicated to be moving and feeling like a new man by the end of this year.

@stndrd momentum building challenge sign is still open for a few days and it looks like I’m going to be trying to add some muscle not cut after this month.

The goal is to give yourself fully to what you love,
because in doing so, you’ll find meaning far beyond the result.

Chasing external things for the wrong reasons can create dependency.
When your worth is tied to what you can’t control, you become a slave to it.
But refusing to chase doesn’t erase the desire.
Doing nothing is not freedom either.
Maybe true freedom can be found after you’ve pursued and even achieved those external wins long enough to see they don’t actually fill you.
Long enough to learn it, not through logic, but through feeling.
Then you can learn to apply discipline, effort, or whatever you want wherever you want without being dependent on the outcome.

Then you can trust your instincts to make the decision on whether to stay, or to leave something you love, without the fear of losing yourself in the process.

I’ve been a full-time stay at home dad for the last month and honestly it’s been quite nice.

My days aren’t filled with much, if any, traditional productivity. There’s a lot of slow moments. Some boredom. Repetition. But there’s also a lot of love and presence embedded into all of it.

There isn’t much thinking about what I have to do or what I should be doing. No pressure to perform. No expectation of who I need to be.
There’s just being present. Showing up. Sitting on the floor. Going to the park. Watching time pass without trying to outrun it.

I’ve spent most of my life trying to optimize everything. Training. Work. Schedules. Output. Progress. Always asking how to do more, better, faster.
And funny enough, this season of not really optimizing anything (other than a toddlers routine) has been revitalizing in its own way.

Bodybuilding required a lot of me, more than I was able to give at times, but my family just needs my presence.

Strictly enjoying the fruits of my labor for too long would probably drive me insane. Growth and momentum does matter and I love getting shit done.
But I think growth can also come from doing less. Learning how to slow down and enjoy the simple moments.

I don’t think it’s wrong at all to sit back and enjoy what you’ve worked for. To let life feel simple. To let “enough” actually be enough, at least for a little while.

And when it’s time for action it’s with a clear mind because you want to, not because you feel the need to.

Sunday nap time = garage workout.
Started with a 30 minute bike ride around the neighborhood and then did 45 seconds on the rower in between sets of:
Incline curls
Pull ups
Dead bugs
Hammer curls
PS just felt like I’d add the fact that we had pancakes for breakfast 🥞

Slowly relearning how to move.
I know I have a long way to go, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t believe I was capable of some lofty goals.
The bigger the dream, the you more you have to stretch yourself to achieve it, the more you grow as a person.
