A 22-year-old disabled woman was found locked inside a dog kennel, screaming for help, in a backyard in Anson, Texas, on November 22, 2025. Justin Anderson, a neighbor, heard the woman's screams and came to see what was happening. He recorded the horrific discovery on his phone. The woman's foster mom, 60-year-old Kandice “Kandy” Thompson was arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including kidnapping and injury to a disabled person. She was released on bond, and then re-arrested on additional aggravated kidnapping charges on November 25. Kandy and her late husband, a former Anson police chief, had fostered over 50 children throughout the years together before he died in 2020. When police arrived there were two other adult foster children in the home. The victim has since been removed and is with family. Adult Protective Services is managing her case along with the Anson Police Department. "COWARD!" Judge Timothy Mazzei didn't pull punches with his assessment of the Gilgo Beach Serial Killer, Rex Heuermann, as he sentenced him June 17 to life without parole in prison. Police say Sam was physically and sexually assaulted, and forced to do degrading acts like drink and eat urine and feces. Seven suspects were arrested and charged in connection to the crime: 38-year-old Precious Arzuaga, 33-year-old Kyle Sage, 30-year-old Patrick Goodwin, 30-year-old Jennifer Quijano, 29-year-old Kimberly Sochia, 21-year-old Thomas Eaves, and 19-year-old Emily Motyka. At this moment, Motyka and Arzuaga are the only two to plead guilty. On June 2, Motyka pled guilty to second-degree murder and second-degree kidnapping. She faces a minimum of 15 years to life in prison and a maximum of 50 years to life in prison. On June 26, Arzuaga pled guilty to first-degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated sexual abuse, concealment of a human corpse, conspiracy, coercion and endangering the welfare of a child. Nicholas Quade, 25, pleaded guilty in August to five felony counts, including first-degree sexual assault, sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust, and first-degree sexual abuse. According to investigators, deputies were called to a hospital in February 2024 after the child reported being raped by Quade. The court heard details of the abuse during sentencing, where the judge, Tera Salango told Quade he was a “monster” and said the community needed protection from people like him. Judge Salango imposed the maximum possible sentence, expressing that she hoped Quade would die in prison. If he were ever released, he would face 50 years of extended supervision and would be required to register as a sex offender for life. During the hearing, Quade’s defense team raised concerns about his mental state, but the court noted that a previous psychological evaluation had already found him competent to stand trial.
