I recently wrote a letter to my 41-year-old self as if I were 80. 💌

It completely reframed how I see my days, my kids, my marriage, and what I rush through without realizing it.

In this solo episode of ‘Don’t Be a Jerk,’ I read this letter out loud, got a teeeeny bit emotional, and then sat with all the realizations it brought up.

If you’ve ever felt like life is flying by faster than you expected, then you should 1000% try this exercise yourself.

Write a letter from your future self to the version of you today. Whether you’re 80 writing to your 24 year-old self or 60 writing to yourself at 30. See what comes up.

And then read it slowly to yourself, to your spouse, to your kids. Or to no one at all. Whatever makes sense to you.

I promise you’ll walk away just a little bit more grateful for all that you have. ❤️

I shared a story with Bing that wrecked me in the best way. I saw an IG reel, where a 41-year-old woman read a letter her 82-year-old mother wrote:

“If I had one more day in my 41-year-old body…”

She wrote about the giggles of her kids, the messy breakfasts, her husband making coffee, the phone calls she’d never cut short again.

She wrote about how she’d slow down. How she’d savor everything she used to rush past. I got so emotional reading this…

We think we’re building toward some future where everything will finally feel calm and complete.

But one day, we’re going to *miss* the noise and the chaos and the fingerprints on the fridge and the little moments with our partners.

All of it.

Bing Chen’s whole worldview is that contemplating the end makes you live more fully now.

And I think he’s right.

What would change if you treated today like the day you’ll one day wish you could return to?

Life begins at 40. The rest is just research.⁣
⁣
If you're 23, 37, or anywhere in between and feeling behind—you're not. You're exactly where you need to be.⁣
⁣
That pressure you feel? That timeline anxiety? It's manufactured. Real life, the good stuff, the stuff that actually matters—that comes when you've done the work, learned the lessons, and built the foundation.⁣
⁣
Until then? You're just gathering data.⁣

This study on luck is FASCINATING.

Dr. Richard Wiseman spent a decade trying to understand luck.

He took 200 people who called themselves objectively lucky and 200 who called themselves objectively unlucky. Gave both groups a simple task: count the photos in a newspaper. Get it right, win 500 pounds. Miss by one, win nothing.

Halfway through the paper: a half-page ad in big print. "The answer is 47. Tell your proctor now and collect your money."

Every single lucky person saw it. Almost none of the unlucky people did.

Lucky people aren't more talented or more resourced. They're focused but relaxed. Open to what's around them while they work. Not so fixated on the outcome that they miss what's in front of them.

Unlucky people (who consider themselves unlucky) try so hard to do the right thing and then miss the answer sitting in plain sight.

The lesson: if you believe the world is conspiring in your favor, then it actually will. You just have to keep your eyes open long enough to see it.

BTW - this clip came from my recent “Don’t Be a Jerk” episode with @briannekimmel ! Listen everywhere you get your podcasts. 💌

Stop introducing yourself with your resume!!! This professional ghostwriter (who’s written for companies like Hinge, Duolingo, Google, and much more) says you can do MUCH better.

Adam Delehanty told us: “Introduce yourself with your future instead of your past.”

So try the VGPS method when you introduce yourself next time:

V = Vision 🔮
What do you want the world to become and how do you want to change it?

G = Gratitude 🙏
“I’m so lucky I get to spend everyday helping X do Y.”

P = Profile 💼
This is more literal. “I’m a founder of ABC. We’re building X to do Y.”

S = Service 🤗
“These are the people I serve. Here’s what it looks like when the work goes well.”

How do you introduce yourself to people?

"Hardware is the only moat."

Hot take from Nicole Maffeo (co-founder at Gambit Robotics) on what's actually defensible in tech in 2026.

There are only 2 moats that matter in AI:

1. Hardware (tactile, can't be copied overnight)
2. Proprietary data (unique, personal, impossible to replicate)

She says that software-only companies just aren't defensible anymore...

This is why every AI company is suddenly OBSESSED with getting into your home or on your wrist.

His CEO called him "the tallest midget" in a meeting. It totally caught him off guard.

Danh didn't blow up.

But he texted the CEO later on: *"I'm going to assume you didn't know that word is derogatory. I just want to let you know how I felt."*

The CEO was apologetic. Curious. Wanted to learn more.

That's how you confront something without destroying the relationship in the process.

Did you play a team sport after age 14?⁣
⁣
This coach uses this as a screening question for CEOs. Here's why it matters:⁣
⁣
Before 14: Your parents chose the sport. They were probably your coach. They think you're special.⁣
⁣
After 14: The sport chooses you. You get cut. The coach doesn't think you're special - they want to MAKE you special.⁣
⁣
If you've experienced that level of direct, critical feedback designed to make you better (not feel good), you already know what real coaching feels like.⁣
⁣
If a business coach is the first person to give you that kind of feedback... they might not be effective.⁣
⁣
Band, ballet, basketball, boxing - it all counts. The question isn't about athletics. It's about coachability.

This clip is from episode 5 of 'Don't Be a Jerk' with negotiation coaches Derek Blazensky and Todd Camp ❤️

What if instead of spending $400k on college, you gave your kid $200k to:⁣
⁣
• Year 1: $50k to backpack the world, get uncomfortable, learn languages, be vulnerable⁣
• Year 2: $150k seed capital to start and run their own company for a full year⁣
⁣
After touching operations, finance, marketing, HR, legal, customer service... they'd actually know what they're drawn to.⁣
⁣
Then they can either keep building or go to college informed about what they actually want to do.⁣
⁣
Radical? Maybe. But when do we actually give people a chance to figure out what they care about?

Jiu jitsu isn't just a sport. It's a kinship system.⁣
⁣
When you're learning lethal technology - how to break and kill other humans - trust becomes mandatory. Safety becomes sacred. Honor becomes everything.⁣
⁣
That's why jiu jitsu professors call it "domestication" when a white belt walks in. It's an initiation process. They want to see what you do under stress. They regulate. They correct.⁣
⁣
Roll too hard? Now you roll with Bruno. And you learn real quick.⁣
⁣
Jiu jitsu is exploding right now because it's one of the few places men go and think: "Oh. This is what I've been missing."⁣
⁣
It's like seeing for the first time. Your soul works for the first time.⁣
⁣
Modern masculinity needs modern initiation.

Why are so many smart, capable people miserable at work? 🫠

Adam Delehanty's answer on Well Said: they picked the wrong system, not just the wrong job.

"Before you pick your career, figure out your orientation to capitalism. Are you an advocate? Are you a challenger from the inside? Do you want to burn it down?"

His point: if the for-profit corporate structure itself frustrates you, no job title or company change will fix that. The alignment has to happen at a deeper level.
