Have you ever heard of a hair tourniquet?

This is a term for when a piece of hair or thread from clothes or a blanket get wrapped around a child’s toe(s) or finger(s). It can happen with other parts of the body like ankles, wrists, tongues or genitals.
If baby is inconsolable though you’ve tried everything (diaper, feeding, walking, cuddles), check out their digits!
A mom tip we have seen shared is to have a toolkit handy consisting of small nail clippers or nail scissors, tweezers and even Nair! These can be helpful in removing that tangled hair from baby’s body but if you are unable to remove it quickly, seek medical help ASAP! The hair can become tight enough that it blocks blood flow to the area and can damage tissue.
Do frequent checks of baby (every diaper change is a good time!) and also of their clothing and blankets to trim any loose threads.
Have you ever experienced this before? How did you manage?

Some glucose test pro-tips (in case you don’t want to shotgun it 😅):

1️⃣ Bring a straw - it’s so much easier to drink!
2️⃣ Ask for the clear version of the drink (lemon-lime) - it tastes so much better than the orange or fruit punch.
3️⃣ Natural or organic options - In some places, there may be options that use natural or organic ingredients, although these might be less common and can vary by region and healthcare provider. There are also natural options you can order online ahead of time to bring with you to your appointment.
4️⃣ Ask for it chilled - Chilling the glucose drink can sometimes make it more tolerable to consume.

A supplemental nursing system (SNS) consists of a container with a tube that is placed alongside the nipple to deliver supplemental milk while breastfeeding.

It takes practice, but a SNS can be a game-changer for sustaining breastfeeding! 💕 It can help boost milk supply, increases skin-to-skin time, and allows baby to receive supplemental milk while still practicing breastfeeding skills.

Have you tried one? Share your experience below! ⬇️

Why do baby hands collect more lint than a dryer filter?! 🤔🧦 Tiny, clenched fists = tiny lint magnets! Totally normal—just a mix of fabric fuzz and dust from their surroundings. No need to worry, just a quick wipe with a soft, damp cloth, and they’re good as new!

A nipple shield is sometimes introduced when baby is having a hard time breastfeeding for reasons like:
✨Baby is unable to latch
✨Shallow Latch
✨Baby is born premature
✨Needs the extra stimulation to trigger sucking
Or when mom is experiencing: ✨Cracked, sore, or damaged nipples
✨Flat nipples
✨Inverted nipples
Did you know? Nipple shields come in different shapes sizes. Find the best fit for your nipple size and the best shape for baby’s needs for better feeding outcomes.
A nipple shield can be a helpful tool for keeping baby at breast and moms should feel educated, not shamed, when it comes to using a nipple shield. You can ask your provider to create a plan with you when it comes to utilizing this lactation aid. The goal with a nipple shield is to help the baby latch and feed at the breast and eliminate damage to mom’s areola and nipple. Your IBCLC can help you identify the underlying causes of what is going on, leading to more functional and comfortable feeding for you and your little one. 💕

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been personally victimized by a biting baby vampire 🖐
If your little one has started biting during nursing sessions, you’re not alone—and it’s not a sign that your breastfeeding journey needs to end. Let’s explore why this happens and how to gently navigate it:
Why Does Biting Happen?
Teething Troubles: Those new pearly whites can make gums sore. Biting might be your baby’s way of finding relief.
Curious Explorers: As babies grow, their curiosity increases. They might bite if something catches their attention during feeding.
Boredom or Fullness: Sometimes, babies bite when they’re no longer hungry but still latched on.
Seeking a Reaction: Babies are keen observers. A strong reaction to biting might encourage them to repeat the behavior.
Tips to Prevent and Manage Biting:
Stay Attentive: Watch for signs that your baby is finishing feeding. If they seem distracted or start playing, gently end the session.
Offer Teething Relief: Provide a cold teething ring or a clean, damp washcloth for them to chew on before nursing.
Maintain a Calm Environment: Reduce distractions during feeding times to help your baby focus.
Respond Gently: If biting occurs, calmly say, “No biting,” and remove them from the breast for a moment. Avoid loud reactions, which might startle or inadvertently amuse them.
Ensure Proper Latch: A deep latch can make biting more difficult. If you’re unsure about the latch, a lactation consultant can offer guidance and support.

Kissing your baby changes your breast milk!

When you kiss your baby, you sample germs on their skin, bring that into your body where your lymphatic system creates antibodies to then protect baby via your breast milk!
Breast milk is living so it is constantly changing in real time in response to you and your baby and your environments. Any pathogens (germs 🦠) you come into contact with and transferred to your lymphatic system where your body then makes antibodies specific to those germs.
Those new antibodies are sent out through your breast milk and into your baby’s system to help protect them from any illnesses they/you have been exposed to.
This means these protections pass onto your baby even when you are exclusively pumping! You and your baby share environments so are exposed to the same germs, but by kissing baby, you get any of those germs that you may not have encountered but that they did and STILL produce protections against those yucky germs.
The human body is amazing!!

She did not just visit. She showed up. Send this to a woman who has shown up for you like this!!

When a best friend walks into the hospital after you give birth, it shifts the entire experience. Not in a highlight reel way, but in the ways that actually hold a mother together. Holding the baby so she can rest. Making sure she eats. Sitting beside her when the emotions come in waves. Being calm, steady, and present without needing to be asked.

Repost, share, and save this reel so more women can see the real power of a village. This is female friendship. Welcome to @legendairywomen a space for moms and women to feel seen and heard. Follow so you never miss a post!

Research shows that strong support from other women during pregnancy and postpartum is linked to lower rates of postpartum depression and anxiety, reduced stress, better emotional regulation, and improved recovery. Feeling emotionally understood and practically supported is one of the most protective factors for maternal mental health.

This kind of care is not a bonus. It is foundational for a mother’s health and wellbeing.

But the benefits of female friendship do not stop with motherhood. Close female friendships support women at every stage of life.

Studies associate strong social bonds with lower cortisol levels, greater resilience, and better long term health outcomes for women. Our nervous systems are wired for connection. We regulate, heal, and thrive better together.

So if you are the friend who shows up, know that what you are doing matters deeply. And if you are the one receiving support, you are not asking for too much. You are honoring what your body and mind need. When women are supported by other women, everyone benefits. Families are steadier. Children learn what healthy connection looks like. Mothers heal.

Save this as a reminder. Share it with the woman who showed up for you. Or send it to the friend you would drop everything for. 🫶

The struggle is real 🥴
High lipase = soapy/metallic smell after freezing—not spoilage. Most babies can still drink it. The goal is taste management, not panic.

Lipase facts:

Lipase is a normal fat-digesting enzyme; some milk just tastes “off” faster after chilling/freezing.

Routine scalding isn’t ideal because heat can reduce beneficial components—reserve it only if baby refuses and you’ve weighed pros/cons with your IBCLC/pediatrician.

Hacks that actually help:

❤️Freeze ASAP. Chill quickly and move to the freezer sooner; store in small 2–3 oz portions for faster cooling/thawing.

❤️Use/rotate smart. Offer fresh milk when possible; use older/frozen milk mixed into solids once developmentally ready (6+ months).

❤️Blend to acclimate. Mix a portion of thawed milk with freshly expressed milk; serve cooler to reduce smell.

❤️Find your “window.” Do a mini test: refrigerate 2–3 oz and smell/taste every few hours to learn when your milk changes—then set your fridge-to-freezer timeline.

❤️Upgrade storage. Legendairy Milk’s UV-protecting Barrier Bags help shield milk from light and odor transfer while reducing freezer burn—great for stashes and taste preservation.

High lipase milk is still nutritious, but there are things you can do to help baby take this milk.

Thank you @syddchase on tt for this video!

In a 2016 case study research showed that :
”Almost 40% of women who had an emergency c-section were unable to successfully breastfeed their baby on the first attempt compared to approximately 25% of women who either delivered vaginally or by planned c-section”

Here are our top tips for breastfeeding after a c-section ⬇️

1. Skin-to-skin still matters—especially after a cesarean.
Even if you are temporarily separated or do not have a golden hour, you can still initiate skin-to-skin. Once reunited, prioritize as much skin-to-skin contact as possible—this helps regulate baby’s temperature, heart rate, and stimulates milk production through oxytocin release.

2. Trust your body’s ability to create a milk supply.
Due to surgical stress, anesthesia, and delayed breastfeeding initiation, milk production may not ramp up until around day 4-5. Colostrum production begins during pregnancy so frequent latching and pumping will support the transition to mature milk.

3. Frequent nursing and/or hand expression and pumping in the early days helps protect your supply.

3. Positioning matters when you’re healing.

Try positions that reduce pressure on your incision:
✨ Side-lying (great for rest and recovery)
✨ Football hold (use pillows for support)
✨ Laid-back or semi-reclined positions
You can use pillows or folded blankets to protect your belly and support your arms.

4. Don’t wait to ask for help.
Lactation consultants, postpartum doulas, or feeding specialists can help with latch, milk supply, pumping routines, and more.

5. Remember this:
C-section parents are breastfeeding warriors—navigating pain, fatigue, hormones, and the physical demands of recovery, while still learning to feed a brand-new human. It’s a lot. And you’re doing it.

Whether your cesarean was planned, unexpected, or emergent—you still birthed your baby. You are still deeply powerful.

Tell us your story in the comments 💛

Comment “BABY” on this reel to support that little tummy!

Did you know that when your baby has recurring spit‑up or reflux, it might point to more than just “a phase”? Their tiny gut is still developing — and the balance of bacteria inside it plays a key role.

Here’s what to keep in mind:
🔍 What’s going on - A baby’s gut microbiome is immature at birth and gets influenced by many factors (birth type, antibiotic exposure, formula vs breastmilk).

🧬 Why probiotics matter - Specific probiotic strains (like Lactobacillus reuteri, Bifidobacterium infantis) have been studied for helping ease digestive issues in infants.

💡 For reflux/spit‑up - Lower‑gut‑balance means less irritation, less “back‑up” of feedings, and possibly fewer episodes of spit‑up. Giving your baby a gut‑friendly boost may support this process.

📋 But remember - Probiotics are part of the picture, not the only answer. Burping often, feeding in comfortable positions, tummy‑time and keeping upright after feeding all help.
