Before it was Leak 1.0 v1, it was an experiment sitting at an Italian lab that nobody wanted to take a risk on. It was our understanding that it was TOO conceptual. TOO different. Beauty queens … or should we say Leaked Labs beta baddies 😏🧪 We’ve seen the questions about Flexi and sanitization - which makes sense, since this powder is a new format to the market and needs additional education! To explain this a bit deeper, we phoned a friend, our chemist bestie Julio (20+ years in cosmetic chemistry). Here’s the deal: 〰️ From a hygiene standpoint, using Flexi is no different than dipping your finger into a traditional powder or eyeshadow compact. The format is new, but the formula behaves like other powders designed for finger application. 〰️ He confirmed that like most cosmetic products, Flexi went through strict safety and stability testing before launch, including a 28-day Microbial Challenge Test confirming the preservative system can prevent microbial growth during normal use. All Leaks follow the standard testing for cosmetics to ensure safety. Important to note, that while Leaked Labs innovation may be early in its lifecycle, every Leak is still a fully finished cosmetic product that has passed industry safety testing before reaching your hands. 🙌 TLDR: Flexi was formulated and tested to be safe. Christina’s superpower was that she brought a fresh perspective outside of the beauty industry. Which is why when she thought of the idea for Leaked Labs, we knew it addressed one major pain point: if we don’t change the way products reach you, we will keep seeing the same ones over and over and over... To be a product development first brand means we want to share what it takes to bring a product to market, as if you were sitting as a product developer yourself. For years, the process has been hidden from consumers. And consumers historically are only invited in at the very end when the formula is already locked and the narrative already written. By the time you touched it, the directions were already done. But @leakedlabs aims to change this process by bringing you into it. We shared 9 potential lab leak innovations that we tested internally to a group of incredible creators @abiolaandco last year. We did this to test the theory behind Leaded Labs in the first place, and gather their feedback on potential future leaks during our first ever Beauty Product Development masterclass. The learnings from the group were profound and EXCITING. As we reintroduce Leaked Labs, we want to start by owning that we didn’t do a good enough job explaining what Leaked is. So as we reset, we wanted to take a moment to do that together, and take you on the journey from how we started to where we are today. We saw many comments about the subscription box. That was part of the original idea. But as we built, we realized it would be overwhelming, and it made it harder to understand what people actually wanted, especially with the small batch, handcrafted nature of our leaks. What always remained true is our mission: Leaked Labs is about getting beauty products sooner. A Leak is a finished, safety tested product that we release early without waiting for traditional retail timelines. This isn’t how everyone wants to shop beauty. It’s for those who want to experience what’s next, sooner. From there: If you love it, we keep making it. If you don’t, we archive it. Like Flexi.
