One of my favorite parts of running @cuts is the people I get to meet along the way.

@alexcosta and I have worked together over the years, but for this Anniversary we wanted to switch it up and do something special. We shot a car giveaway with one of my favorite rides, a custom retro Defender.

I’ve watched Alex get more and more into cars and shooting some epic content, so I reached out for a collab. Turns out he’s a legend and now a good friend.

That’s the real perk of running a brand: the chance to meet new friends and collaborators who are also out there doing cool things.

If you’re grinding, keep going. You never know who you’ll team up with next or how it could unlock the next big piece of your idea.

@stevenborrelli and I were part of a small, tight-knit group of CEOs. The only condition to join the group chat at the time was $50M+ in ecom revenue. There were just 8 of us and we were fully committed. Radical transparency. Daily updates. Full financials. Wins, losses, vendor feedback, agency contracts… we shared everything to help each other scale smarter.

And in that group, I had the front row seat to watch Steven go through what could have been an existential threat to his business, one he built from the ground up and scaled to nine figures globally. When tariffs hit it meant the potential demise of his business and many small businesses around the world. There was very little time to respond or prepare. But instead of shutting down, he responded with certainty and viewed it as an opportunity to expand. He wrote a powerful Twitter thread that went viral, caught the attention of journalists around the world, and even the White House. His response didn’t just protect his business, it helped shift the conversation for small brands everywhere.

Man, another year in the books. I just want to thank all of our @cuts customers who have been riding with us, especially in a year like this when not everything goes your way. In the latest episode of our "Behind the Brand" vlog we are giving you a sneak peak into our first foray into Made in America manufacturing.
Fun fact: Brennan (VP of Marketing) was actually the first person I ever hired… just not at @cuts 

Back at San Diego State, I had just started my role as marketing manager of the gym. I’d known Brennan for years, but mostly as a rival in intramural sports.

Honestly, I didn’t think fondly of him at first, but I knew he was a competitor. When I interviewed him, I was curious to see that tenacity in a work setting.

We ended up becoming great friends.

Years later, when I started CUTS, Brennan was one of the first people I called to help figure out how to market and scale the brand. He was there for the Kickstarter and all the early years when we were just trying to make it work.

Fast forward eight years, Brennan is still a soldier for this business and a big reason for much of the success you’ve seen.

During our recent car giveaway, we took some photos that got me excited for the next eight years.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned: you can’t teach grit, commitment, and genuine love for the brand. Those traits outweigh everything else in a great partner or employee.

I’m glad I hired my “arch enemy” eight years ago, because today he shares the same vision that we’re just getting started and the best growth is ahead.
