@nicholas_daley is the only designer we know who’s collaborating with his mother, turning her knit crochet patterns into a full-on collection.

What makes Nicholas Daley stand out are the personal narratives embedded in his work; Daley has added his family touches to the 13-piece collection with @carharttwip_usa , which he walks us through at the WIP store in Brooklyn. 

For this collaboration, Daley drew the co-branded logo by hand, which speaks once again to his ability to make work that feels both grounded and special. “It’s about bringing subtle details that speak about my brand,” says Daley.  “A chore coat is a classic, and you don’t need to overhaul it.”

TB: It was nothing less than magical to celebrate DJ Mehdi’s legacy at @lebainnyc last saturday with an all-star lineup of DJs all close to Mehdi and/or inspired by his music: 👑 @stretcharmstrong who has played with Mehdi numerous times over the years, Mehdi’s son @neilessadi as well as beloved UK brethren @djcharlesprince, sexy Paris import @open.dreams.club, young trailblazers @musclecars.nyc and "DJ Mehdi: Made in France" director @thibaut360 !
Among many party highlights, a highly emotional moment was shared by all in assistance when Neil ended his set with Angie Stone’s "Wish I Didn’t Miss You" as a tribute to both the late singer and his own father ✨✨✨✨ s/o to everyone who came out, including Rock Steady Crew legend @crazylegsbx as well as the one and only @kidcudi who dropped by to support and flick up with Mehdi’s cousins, who were in town for the special screening of the documentary, scheduled the following day at Lincoln Center 🎥🧋🎼🍿 The legacy lives on, now and forever Ⓜ️💙🖤❤️♾️

Carhartt WIP x vowels References : Lulu Yao Gioiello

To mark the end of the WIP Reading Room at vowels, we invited Lulu Yao Gioiello to spend a morning in the library for a special edition of References, vowels’ ongoing interview series. While Lulu is an established creative director in her own right, with a client list that includes Prada, Apple and YSL, she is perhaps best known for her personal project FAR-NEAR. A cross-cultural book series focused on broadening perspectives of Asian culture and identity. 

As capacious as it is nuanced, FAR-NEAR’s premise has led Lulu to work with creatives from all areas of Asia, especially those that often go unseen in the Western world’s narrow view of the continent. Even a cursory glance of FAR-NEAR’s website treats viewers to a startling array of subject matter: Mongolian contortionists; Palestinian resistance; Germany’s Asian diaspora; Pakistani masculinity. This editorial imperative is also deeply personal: Lulu is a born and raised New Yorker of Bronx-Italian and Taiwanese descent. She knows what it means to be many things at once.

Carhartt WIP’s support and close relationship to the project also led to Lulu’s recent inclusion in WIP Magazine Issue 11, captured in New York by photographer Mengyu Zhu, and to having Volume 5 of FAR-NEAR archived in the WIP Reading Room itself.
