For 19 years, I’ve been buying my daughter a Christmas dress and writing her a little note. Look at her face while she reads that letter. “You have your own little room inside my heart, and that place is sacred to me. Merry Christmas.” Love this. It took me all night to think of that. This isn’t just about a dress, though. In fact, in 2016, I bought her a fit that, in retrospect, was not very cute. But look at her trying to smile while I’m showing her how to wear that little hat and that neck thing… no. Obviously, this isn’t about finding the perfect dress. It’s about showing up every single year, creating a tradition that says you matter. As dads, we think we need to do something huge to make an impact. And sometimes we do. But most of the time, it’s the small, consistent things that leave a mark on our kids. That hug right there… that’s the payoff for 19 years of faithful, imperfect execution with perfect love. Consistency in small things eventually makes something big. And PS… look what happened last Christmas with my son and granddaughter.

I thought I knew where this would go… then my 16-year-old said, ‘Can I put it in my room?’ as a dad, I know what I see in this picture but I wonder what he sees...?

What happens when your Jesus actor can't hold it together on set? We were shooting the raising of Jairus' daughter. One of the most intense scenes in all of Scripture. A father desperate. A mother destroyed. A little girl slipping away. And Jesus showing up when it feels too late. In real life... the whole world was already on edge. We were filming during COVID, and everyone was carrying something heavy into that room. Our Jesus actor didn't even get to his line. He walked in, looked at that little family — the dad already in tears, the mom crying looking at the dad — and Jesus just broke. Just stood there with tears in his eyes. And then I was crying. The crew was crying. But what I through the camera wasn't a failed take. It was one of the most honest portrayals of Jesus I've ever shot — because it wasn't performed. It was authentic. Here's what I've learned. When we picture Jesus as always composed — always steady, always above it all — we might start to distrust our own emotions. But that's not the Jesus who showed up at Jairus' house. He walked into a room full of grief and He didn't rush to the miracle. He was present in the pain first. The take we used is the one where Jesus is standing looking at the family with a tear running down his face. They connect with a Savior who weeps with them. May I never again choose a polished performance over a Christ who cries with us. Follow if that’s something you want more of. Comment “ART” and I’ll send you the link to the image that started everything

next time I hear my wife say "I'm just a mom” to someone I'm going to throw the book at her Specifically, the Bible! 291 times God thought motherhood was important enough to put in His book 291 times and guess what He never said “just a mom” Instead He said, "a mother comforts" (Isaiah 66:13) "a mother cannot forget" (Isaiah 49:15) "honor your mother" (Exodus 20:12) "your mother's teaching is a garland for your head" (Proverbs 1:8-9) "her children rise up and call her blessed" (Proverbs 31:28) "clothed with strength and dignity" (Proverbs 31:25) "knit me together in my mother's womb" (Psalm 139:13) and a ton of other things… so try convincing God that you’re ‘just a mom’ Share this with anyone who has ever thought 'I'm just a mom' and reminder her what God thinks of her (and what you think of her)

I loved this image when it came off the pinter and then, about a month later, someone asked me how I “created” the goosebumps on the blind man’s arm so I put my nose up the picture and FOR THE FIRST TIME I SAW THEM! Sometimes we’re so fixated on what we planned that we don’t realize that other people can make the plan more beautiful people can add beauty in ways we never anticipated like adding a baby to the family or meeting someone who changes your life for the better... the blind mans’ goosebumps will always remind me to expect the beautiful surprise

It’s finding Jesus and it’s realizing the picture with that scar on Jesus’s hand. Like that was optional. Jesus was resurrected. Like I’m probably not going to have scars. Even if I die with no hand, it’s going to come back. Jesus kept it for a reason because these things are like what make us beautiful. And I’ll watch people like when there’s a canvas or something of this. If nobody’s watching, kids will go up and they’ll be like and they’ll touch it and adults will do the same thing. But little kids are the best because we’re drawn to the scar and the idea that like one of the most beautiful things and symbolic things about Jesus is like here it is, touch it. That thing can be beautiful. That thing can represent all the hope in the world is like this healed over scar.

POV: You realize where real strength comes from
We got in the car and drove like five miles for her to show me this trick on the bar. She's flipping around. She gets hung up and I go, ""Are you stuck?"" It was natural, but I think that might be the most important thing we ever asked as dads. She's hanging on there, struggling, and I could help right away. I could just go lift her up. But here's the thing. Dads ask, ""Are you stuck?"" Because we have the ability to fix a lot of things. But we're also asking our kids to grow, to try first. I feel like we learn this from watching God deal with us. He could fix every single problem right away. But he cares more about who we become than fixing everything fast. He doesn't just want to change what's happening. He wants us to change. And look, she's not crying. She's actually laughing and trying again because I didn't jump in too fast. Sometimes love means simply asking, ""Are you stuck?"" and standing there with the power to help, but also the power to help them grow. Waiting for growth. Follow if that’s something you want more of. Comment “ART” and I’ll send you the link to the image that started everything.
