 Owner Sophie LaMontagne said the employee was “terrified” after the large metal keg shattered the bakery’s heavy glass window. No injuries were reported, but staff were left shaken by what LaMontagne called a “deliberate” act of vandalism.
 Surveillance footage shared online shows the suspect carrying the keg before hurling it through the storefront around 11 p.m.

 A man threw a beer keg through the front window of Georgetown Cupcake late Sunday night, terrifying a baker who was inside preparing for the next day.
 Owner Sophie LaMontagne said the employee was “terrified” after the large metal keg shattered the bakery’s heavy glass window. No injuries were reported, but staff were left shaken by what LaMontagne called a “deliberate” act of vandalism.

The new location at 1200 East-West Highway is more than four times larger than its former Brookland café and will serve as the organization’s regional flagship. The expanded space can accommodate about 60 guests, train more than 185 students annually, and host private and community events. The café will serve breakfast, lunch, pastries, and weekend brunch, featuring items such as house-made biscuits, avocado toast, crispy chicken sandwiches, brown butter pancakes, and vegan shakshuka. The larger facility will also support Emma’s Torch’s growing catering business. Founded in 2016, Emma’s Torch has trained more than 700 students from over 75 countries, helping participants build careers in the culinary industry and achieve greater financial independence. The new Silver Spring location aims to better serve the region’s growing refugee and immigrant communities while providing customers with a welcoming café experience that directly supports the organization’s mission. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for June 11 ahead of the public opening.

Mayor Keith Sydnor said the decision was made in response to recent youth gatherings and incidents across the region, as well as disruptions during last year’s Fourth of July celebrations. The city hopes the curfew will help keep young people and the community safe during the summer months. Exceptions include minors who are with a parent or guardian, traveling to or from work, or attending an organized event or activity. City officials say a similar curfew was implemented last year without any arrests or penalties and are hopeful this summer’s effort will have the same result.
