A man from #Holmdel is facing serious charges after attempting to steal a Pride flag from @mainstdonuts in #MatawanNJ and making nazi salutes. The incident, which occurred just before noon on Saturday, was caught on camera and shows the suspect, dressed in a trump hat and wig, making Nazi salutes and shouting Nazi propaganda.

Joe Rizzuto, the store's owner, confronted the man during the incident. The man later drove by and threatened to burn down the business. Rizzuto described the experience as horrifying and emotionally rattling.

61-year-old Maciej Wojciak of #HolmdelNJ, has been charged with bias intimidation, terroristic threats, criminal mischief, and disorderly conduct. He is currently being held at #MonmouthCounty jail.

The local community quickly rallied in support. @mainstdonuts was packed the next day, selling out before noon, with customers leaving messages of love and acceptance on the shop windows. Rizzuto, joined by his husband and their 17-year-old son Luke, fulfilled a busy day of orders.

"If you don't like my flag, don't come to my shop," Rizzuto said. "That flag is going out again. I'm proud of who I am."

An 8-year-old child was saved Monday after jumping from the second floor of a burning home in Asbury Park and into the arms of two police officers and a neighbor, authorities said.

Police Officers Dewitt Bacon and John Walsh, along with local resident Joseph Dunbar, caught the child after urging them to leap from the Prospect Avenue home. Video released Tuesday shows the moment the child pushed out the window screen before jumping to safety.

“Asbury Park police officers train for fast-moving, dangerous situations, and yesterday’s rescue shows the value of that training and the strength of our community,” said Police Director John B. Hayes.

Hayes praised the bravery of everyone involved, noting the child’s courage in making the jump. No further injuries were reported.

Have you heard?

A thoroughbred racehorse named Hawkstone escaped #MonmouthPark Racetrack yesterday. The horse was spotted trotting down the westbound lanes of Route 36 and stunning drivers before being safely captured.

Trainer Cal Lynch said Hawkstone was spooked and slipped away from his handler through an open gate — something he called “out of character” for the typically calm horse. Lynch expressed concern that the stable gate had been left open, saying it put both the horse and public in danger.

Teresa Dunsheath, a New Jersey woman, has issued a public apology after a viral video showed her hurling antisemitism at a Jewish family following a minor traffic crash in Manalapan on Christmas Day.

The incident occurred near the Manalapan Police Station after the family was rear-ended while stopped at a red light. Video shared online by one of the victims shows Dunsheath standing outside their vehicle and repeatedly making antisemitic remarks, even as she appeared aware she was being recorded.

The family said the crash happened after the other driver was distracted by an unsecured dog. They described the confrontation as shocking and said it has heightened safety concerns within the local Jewish community.

After the video spread widely on social media, Dunsheath released a written apology, saying she was “deeply ashamed,” accepted full responsibility, and acknowledged that nothing justified her behavior. She asked that her family not be harassed as a result.

As of the latest update, Manalapan police have not said whether the incident is being reviewed as a bias-related case or whether any charges will be filed.

A BP gas station in #KeyportNJ is at the center of a growing local controversy after drivers reported their cars broke down shortly after filling up.

The station, located on Clark Road just off the #GardenStateParkway, has now shut down all of its gas pumps.

One of the affected drivers, said her Honda Civic stalled shortly after she left the BP. "I went from 60 to 40 in 2 seconds on the parkway, and it's absolutely terrifying," she said. Her mechanic told her the car's tank contained 12 gallons of water.

#Keyport PD Chief Michael Ferm confirmed the department had taken 10 reports as of Thursday afternoon. The Office of Weights and Measures has launched an investigation, and complaints are continuing to surface online.

BP is reportedly working with affected drivers. At least one customer reported a repair bill of $1,700. Chief Ferm urged anyone who believes they received contaminated fuel to file a report with the police.

The source of the contamination has not been officially confirmed.

A Belmar man has been arrested after allegedly pulling his SUV in front of two bicyclists and punching one of them in the face, leaving the 70-year-old victim with a broken jaw that required surgery.

Police say Anthony Alvear, of Belmar, stopped his dark-blue Kia SUV near 12th and D streets Friday afternoon, shouted at the cyclists, and then struck the victim with a closed fist while cursing at him. The assault was captured on a neighbor’s Ring camera, which shows the victim falling to the ground as Alvear drove off, using profanities and a homophobic slur.

Witnesses rushed to help the injured man, who was later taken for treatment.

Police identified Alvear the same day but did not find him at his home until Sunday, when he was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with second-degree aggravated assault and issued a summons for a noise violation. He is being held at the Monmouth County Jail.

Have you heard?

A fast-moving fire destroyed 3 homes and damaged a fourth early Sunday morning just blocks from the beach in #BelmarNJ. The blaze broke out around 6:05am on 13th Avenue.

One resident suffered minor burns after being alerted by a passerby walking her dog, who called 911 and banged on his door. Unable to exit through the front due to flames, the man escaped through the back, said Fire Chief Sean Pringle.

2 firefighters also suffered minor injuries-one with a burn and another with a neck injury. Both were treated at the scene.

Over 50 firefighters from more than a dozen departments responded as the fire quickly spread from one home to two neighboring houses. A gas meter exploded during the blaze, and intense heat forced firefighters to evacuate mid-search inside one home.

Three houses were deemed total losses, with a fourth sustaining exterior damage. Crews remained on scene until 10am.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

What are your thoughts?

In a dramatic move aimed at "preserving the Jersey Shore experience," Monmouth County officials announced that any vehicle traveling east of Route 35 between Memorial Day and Labor Day will be subject to a new congestion pricing fee.

The cost?

- $12 per vehicle per day
- $6 for Monmouth County residents (with proof of residency and a beach badge)

All beach towns east of Route 35 will be included in what officials are calling the "Coastal Preservation Zone."

Toll readers will be installed "with minimal disruption" - mostly disguised as hot dog stands and decorative lifeguard chairs. Revenue will reportedly go toward
"beach replenishment and construction of a long-debated bridge connecting #Manasquan to #PointPleasant.

A spokesperson for the county said, "If New York City can charge drivers to go to Manhattan, we can charge them to go to Belmar."

Former New Jersey State Trooper Shane H. Dempsey, 32, of Brick, faces more than a decade in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an undercover sting in which he arranged to meet someone he believed was a 14-year-old girl.

According to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Dempsey used the social media app Whisper last summer to exchange messages with an undercover detective posing as the minor. He allegedly requested explicit images, offered to pay for sexual acts, and drove to a planned meeting in his police vehicle.

Dempsey pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted sexual assault and third-degree official misconduct. Under the plea deal, prosecutors will recommend a seven-year prison sentence, with no parole eligibility for two years. He must also register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law, face lifetime monitoring, forfeit his law enforcement position, and is permanently barred from public employment.

Dempsey, who joined the state police pension system in 2017 and earned $80,704 annually, will be sentenced Nov. 21.

What are your thoughts?

A former church official in Monmouth County has been charged with embezzling more than $500,000 from the Church of Saint Leo the Great in Lincroft, authorities announced.

Joseph A. Manzi, 78, of Atlantic Highlands, allegedly used church credit cards and cash funds for personal expenses while serving as the church’s director of finance, operations, and development. His employment ended in June 2025 after an internal audit uncovered financial irregularities, triggering a state investigation.

According to the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, Manzi spent over $300,000 on church credit cards and diverted about $200,000 in cash between 2019 and 2025. The alleged spending included a Cadillac SUV, luxury clothing, home repairs, medical bills, fishing trips, and sports tickets.

Attorney General Matthew Platkin said Manzi “used his position of trust to live a more lavish lifestyle,” adding that such conduct “will not be tolerated.”

Manzi was charged with second-degree theft by unlawful taking, which carries a possible sentence of five to ten years in prison and a fine of up to $150,000. The case is being prosecuted by the state Division of Criminal Justice, with assistance from local authorities.

Asbury Park, is stepping firmly into the luxury spotlight with the debut of Lido Asbury Park, a high-end waterfront development. The project made headlines after one of its penthouses sold for a record-breaking $7.6 million—making it the most expensive condo ever sold in New Jersey.

Slated for completion in 2027, the eight-story, 112-residence complex at 1201 Ocean Avenue features interiors by Clodagh Design and resort-style amenities across nearly 50,000 square feet. Units start at $825,000 and top out over $8 million.

The record-setting penthouse boasts 3,600 square feet of interior space, 2,400 square feet of outdoor terraces, a rooftop plunge pool, outdoor kitchen, and double-height living room.

Developer Ralph Zucker called Lido a response to the town’s rising demand for high-end, full-service living. “We didn’t try to reinvent Asbury Park we embraced its character and built on it,” he said.

Asbury Park’s transformation is part of a broader luxury boom along the Jersey Shore, with major investments in places like Atlantic City, Cape May, and Long Branch.

This means NJ ice agents are required to keep at least 75 arrests per day. - Follow to stay in the loop, join the waitlist for our local app, link in bio. repost from @jerseytalks #njnews #keyport #keyportnj #centraljersey #monmouthcountynj #monmouthcounty #townsofnewjersey
Have you heard?

THRIVE Red Bank, a first-of-its-kind neuroinclusive apartment community, will officially break ground on July 30 at 11am at 273 Shrewsbury Avenue in Red Bank.

Set to open in 2027, the 3-story, 34K-square-foot building will include 32 one-bedroom apartments designed for independent living, along with 1st-floor amenities such as a sensory room, teaching kitchen, wellness space, & community engagement areas.

The development is led by THRIVE Red Bank Partners in collaboration with the nonprofit Parents With A Plan and the Rutgers Center for Adult Autism Services (RCAAS). The goal is to provide long-term, supportive housing for neurodivergent adults—those with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and related conditions.

Karen Fluharty, founder of Parents With A Plan and general partner of THRIVE Red Bank, was inspired by her 23-year-old neurodivergent son. “Too many young adults age out of the system and end up isolated,” she said. “This community offers them the chance to live independently and meaningfully.”

John Klein, former CEO of Simon Premium Outlets and managing partner of THRIVE Red Bank, believes the project will become a national model. “Red Bank is the perfect place to launch this,” said his wife, Robin Klein, also a founding board member of Parents With A Plan.

In a unique partnership, Rutgers faculty and students will support residents through on-site programming, blending academic training with clinical expertise. “This is a pioneering effort in neuroinclusive housing,” said RCAAS Executive Director Christopher Manente.

What are your thoughts?

Graffiti with possible gang ties was recently found in several Red Bank locations, including a Pearl Street residence, intersections along Shrewsbury and Locust Avenues, and at Locust Landing apartments and the Beachhaven Nature Area deck.

Among the markings was “Sur 13,” a tag associated with the Sureños, a gang network tied to the Mexican Mafia. The “13” represents the letter M, symbolizing La Eme, the group’s Spanish name. Other symbols, including “MP” and three dots with a double underline, may represent local cliques or common gang iconography such as “Mi Vida Loca.”

While Red Bank has not been a hotspot for gang activity, police have occasionally dealt with graffiti and suspected affiliations. The appearance of these tags could signal an attempt to claim territory or intimidate, though it remains unclear whether it reflects active gang members or individuals mimicking gang culture.
