Have you heard?

A 28-year-old man from Franklin Lakes was struck by lightning while golfing at Ballyowen Golf Course in #HardystoNJ yesterday.

The lightning reportedly entered through the victims head and exited down the right side of his body, 2 golfers nearby started doing CPR. He was then airlifted to Cooperman Barnabas Hospital in Livingston.

As of Wednesday, his condition had not been publicly released.

The golf course, part of Crystal Springs Resort, has not issued a statement. According to the CDC, lightning strikes are extremely rare — less than one in a million — and most are non-fatal.

A neighborhood in #LambertvilleNJ have been forced to drink bottled water or even install filtration systems as fears grow over health concerns over the water quality. Recent testing of the neighborhoods water supply shows high levels of “forever chemicals” with 71 of the 74 private wells exceeding state limits. Many wells even registered 10x over the threshold.

Forever Chemicals aka PFAS or a group of over 12,000 synthetic chemicals used in everyday products and have been linked to serious health issues, including cancer, birth defects and more.

Many residents believe that health problems are stemming from the PFAS with a teenager of Connaught Hill has ulcerative colitis & underwent surgery to remove a section of intestine while another recently battled testicular cancer.

@diamondnationnj has submitted updated plans to build a 3-story, 126K-square-foot self-storage facility on a 4.9-acre lot across from its baseball complex at River and Bartles Corner roads in #Flemington. The property is currently used as overflow parking but will no longer serve that function under the new proposal.

While the facility is permitted in the township's I-2 zone, several variances will be needed, including those for minimum lot size, front yard setback, and signage.

The initial 2023 proposal included keeping the overflow parking, but the revised plan removes it entirely. A hearing date before the Planning Board has not yet been scheduled.

Diamond Nation-now owned by Unrivalled Sports-is the largest turf baseball complex in the U.S., drawing over 3K teams and 45K athletes annually. The Cust family will remain involved in operations despite the ownership change.

What are your thoughts?

In an unprecedented decision, officials have announced that the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge will close for 6 months to help "preserve the sanctity of Washington's historic Delaware River crossing."

The initiative, titled "Re-Crossing History," is part of a controversial new preservation effort. Moving forward, the only permitted way to cross between New Hope and Lambertville will be via licensed rowboat — to "fully honor the experience of 1776."

Pennsylvania officials say it's about reconnecting with the past. "If General Washington could do it on Christmas Day, you can do it on your morning commute," said one spokesperson. "It builds character."

Rowboat service will be offered hourly from 8am - 5pm., weather permitting. Tickets will cost $4 for Lambertville residents, $9 for New Hope Residents, including a complimentary tricorn hat (while supplies last).

No pets or bicycles allowed.

For those unwilling to row, the official detour will direct drivers to the Washington Crossing Bridge, 7 miles south. Detour planners described this as “spiritually aligned with the founding fathers’ commute.”

Local businesses are concerned, but history buffs are thrilled. "Honestly, it's about time we took patriotism seriously," said one man in full colonial garb.

Happy April Fools' from Towns Of. 💚

Congrats @mikiesherrill

Democrat Mikie Sherrill has been elected governor of New Jersey, defeating Republican Jack Ciattarelli, who was backed by Donald Trump. The former Navy pilot and congresswoman becomes the state’s second female governor and secures Democrats’ third straight gubernatorial win, the first such streak in 60 years.

Election Day saw brief disruptions from unfounded bomb threats in several counties. Sherrill campaigned as a centrist focused on freezing utility rates and opposing Trump’s threat to cancel the Hudson River tunnel project.

She faced scrutiny over her Naval Academy record but emphasized her military and prosecutorial background. Ciattarelli was criticized for his past business ties to opioid-related materials. Sherrill inherits a large budget and fiscal challenges left by outgoing Gov. Phil Murphy, as Democrats maintain control of the state Assembly.

What are your thoughts?

At Ramsey High School, Gov. @philmurphynj on Thursday signed a sweeping new law requiring every public school district in NJ to adopt policies restricting cellphone use in classrooms.

The signing took place nearly a year after Murphy first proposed limiting phones in schools and marked one of his final official events before leaving office on Jan. 20. “I wish this ban had been in place a long time ago,” Murphy said, calling the measure part of a broader effort to remove distractions from classrooms.

The guidelines will address phone use on school buses and at school-sponsored events. Districts will be required to align their policies with the guidelines but may apply for exemptions.

Exceptions will be allowed when students provide documentation from a healthcare professional showing full cellphone access is necessary for their health or well-being.

Murphy was joined at the signing by a Ramsey HS senior, who said the school’s existing phone-free policy—requiring students to lock devices in pouches—has been successful since its rollout last year.

Educators have largely welcomed the change. “Phone police should not be one of our jobs,” said Steve Beatty, president of the NJEA, noting that teachers regularly struggle to keep students off their phones.

The legislation passed the state Assembly and Senate on Dec. 22 with just three dissenting votes, following recommendations from a state commission that urged schools to ban cellphone and social media use during the school day.

This move follows similar actions in New York.

. Toms River Regional schools approved a full ban on personal electronic devices during the academic day in December, while Jersey City adopted a classroom cellphone ban earlier this fall.

Under the new law, cellphone policies across NJ schools are expected to become far more consistent in the coming months.

What are your thoughts?

A proposed 40-room hotel development with a banquet hall and parking on Coryell Street is drawing concern from Lambertville residents, who fear it could disrupt the city’s residential character.

During a recent City Council meeting, a man whose home borders the site, spoke out about the scale of the 3-story project and its potential impact on light, air, and property values. “It will box us in,” he said, noting that all his windows face the proposed development.

The hotel would be built on the former Finkels property, a longtime local business that closed last year. Residents also raised concerns about the developer’s lack of communication, environmental history of the site, and the potential for zoning variances.

Council members acknowledged the community’s concerns, emphasizing the need to balance economic growth with neighborhood integrity.

The project will require public hearings and possible zoning approvals before moving forward.

Light snow is expected across parts of New Jersey late Monday night into Tuesday morning, with up to 2 inches possible in @townsofmorris + @townsofhunterdon , forecasters say.

The National Weather Service reports that areas north of I-78 could see 1–2 inches of snow, while locations to the south are expected to receive less than an inch. Roads may become slick during the Tuesday morning commute, especially during the busy holiday travel week.

Forecasters say temperatures will rise above freezing later Tuesday, helping improve road conditions. Travelers are advised to allow extra time and use caution overnight and early Tuesday.

Sunday will remain mostly clear and windy, with highs in the 40s and gusts up to 30 mph. Monday will be cold and dry before clouds increase Monday night ahead of the snowfall.

Looking ahead, Christmas Eve is expected to be dry with some sunshine, while Christmas Day could bring a slight chance of rain, though confidence remains low. Temperatures through the week will stay seasonable, generally in the 40s, with milder conditions possible by Friday.

2 #NewJersey men have been charged after a year-long investigation uncovered the illegal dumping of hazardous materials, including asbestos, at a former movie theater property in #NewWindsorNY.

The investigation, led by @nwpdny and involving multiple agencies, began last year & concluded with the April 15 arrests of Gary DiGiovanni, 61, of #HunterdonCounty, & Dean Buncombe, 45, of #BergenCounty.

Authorities say the 2 men were involved in dumping contaminated materials at the former Destina Movie Theatre. DiGiovanni faces forgery, falsifying records, and criminal possession of a weapon, and is being held pending arraignment. Buncombe was charged with filing false documents and possessing a forged instrument and has been released with a court summons.

Additional environmental charges are pending as the investigation continues. #NewWindsor Town Supervisor Stephen Bedetti condemned the act, calling it a reckless threat to the community and environment.

Learn more👇 The two-week event is a joint effort between the @visitnewhope of Commerce and the @explorelambertville. More than two dozen restaurants on both sides of the Delaware River will offer three-course prix fixe lunch and dinner menus priced from $25 to $55, helping support the local dining scene during a typically slow winter period. Some of the participants restaurants @townsofpennsylvania (New Hope): @birdsnestgrille @blackbasshotel @ghnewhope @loganinnpa @goldenpheasantinn @martinesriverhouse @nektarwinebar @oldestonesteakhouse @riverhouseatodettes @townsofnewjersey (Lambertville): @eltulelambertville @lambertvillestation @metacafe.nj @nomadpizza @thesalthousenewhope Organizers say the event is a “win-win” for the region, benefiting not only restaurants but also local shops, galleries, hotels, and attractions in the two historic river towns, which are connected by the free bridge. fyi

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission says the bridge will be closed to NJ-bound traffic from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays while contractors install a temporary platform to inspect and repair electrical components.

During the closure, the Pennsylvania-side access at Main Street (Route 32) and East Bridge Street (Route 179) will be barricaded. Signs will direct motorists to use the nearby Route 202 Toll Bridge instead.

The bridge will stay open to Pennsylvania-bound traffic at all times, with vehicles shifted into one lane to allow work. Pedestrian access will also remain open, and two-way traffic will return nights and weekends.

Officials urge commuters to plan ahead and expect delays during the two-week project.

Have you heard?

A geomagnetic storm is expected to bring the Northern Lights to parts of the northern U.S. late Monday night into early Tuesday, according to NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center.

The aurora may be visible in 12 northern states, especially in their northern regions. However, states farther south like New Jersey and Pennsylvania are less likely to see the lights this time due to their location - and earlier cloud cover already limited visibility Sunday night.

While some #BucksCounty residents caught a faint glimpse Sunday, this storm is classified as a G1 - the weakest on NOAA’s 5-level scale.

In contrast, stronger solar storms last year lit up skies across much of the Northeast, including a rare October display over #Pennsylvania.
