The story of how I spent the weekend with @turtlecreeklane A highlight of my year!
I went viral recently for talking about my experience at @turtlecreeklane’s family mansion.

What I didn’t share was how Steve Houghton made his fortune - or why I respect him as one of the most successful entrepreneurs I’ve ever met, both in his personal family life and in business.

If you want to see Steve’s wealth philosophy (which money is only one small part of), plus 50+ other successful founders’ finance breakdowns, comment “yes” and I’ll Dm you.

My buddy Vinay founded Loom and shared his personal finances with me.

I've done about 50-70 of these interviews and I'm posting a bunch of them here but I've compiled all of them including this one into a document that is free and super easy to read 50+ successful founders.

Comment “yes” and I’ll DM you it.

I sold my company when I was 31 for over $40m (sale price + performance bonuses).

I personally netted tens of millions after taxes.

Before that? I tried 15+ businesses, all small wins, all steps toward the big one.

Talking about these numbers potentially makes me look silly. I get it.

But I’m sharing to let other founders know: KEEP GOING.

My current company, Hampton, is for founders doing $3M+ in revenue who want a real peer group.

We’re 1,000+ founders averaging $25 million per year, meeting monthly in person to help each other scale and stay sane.

If interested in, comment “hampton” and I’ll send you application details!

https://joinhampton.com/

PS: I have like 5-10 wins and losses. I can make a part 2 if you’re interested!

Shout out to my bud @marshallhaas. His video inspired mine. If you like this, check out him.

The buyer (Hubspot) had like 10-15 lawyers + accountants asking me questions.

One of the questions, I swear, was like about a $50 purchase on Fivver. They needed to know all the vendors we used so to make sure we weren’t violated any non-solicits.

I was like “this was a $50 logo job on Fiverr from a dude in Asia with a username bigballerboi69 — I didn’t exactly track the invoice or non-compete well on this one.”

Thankfully, they were cool with it...

But seriously, if you’re sicking of building alone and want IRL help…Hampton.

We created groups of 8 other founders for monthly convos with a trained moderator. All done IRL in your city.

And its totally life changing (and if it isn't, you don't pay).

But..there is a catch: you need at least $3m in revenue and have a thorough vetting process...otherwise this whole thing stinks.

Link in my bio to apply!

Kudos to @wsj this was great.

I do interviews with founders worth $100 million-$5 billion where they breakdown their entire net worth and I post the interviews and the breakdowns on my page.

Follow if you’re interested that. And click around on my latest net worth breakdowns.

What’s the difference between a $10m, $100m, and $1 billion lifestyle?

I asked this question in Hampton’s Slack community since we have founders worth $10m - $2b.

If you want the full report from 50+ founders, comment “yes” and I’ll DM it to you.

Why I love business:

it’s the most practical way to build your own reality. Who you work with, how you spend your time, where you live, how your organization treats people.

And the reason why I love reading history, particularly business history as you can see so many different ways to get stuff done.

For every bit of advice, you see today you can easily point to people in the past to have done the exact opposite and achieved some amazing things.

I particularly love reading about the Gilded Age era, and John Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, and Cornelius Vanderbilt. Many of these guys did some ridiculously bad things, but they were Cowboys and I love reading about them.

My buddy is a founder worth ~$200m...here's his entire portfolio broken down.

Backstory:

1. I have a personal finance for wealthy people podcast called Moneywise.
2. High net worth people break down their spending and investing styles.

I had Mike Beckham on.

He started Simple Modern, a $200m+ a year ecom biz.

The main topic was on how he gives away his money.

His numbers:

1. Company Profit: $40-50 million range this year
2. Monthly Personal Spending: only $25,000/month.
3. Annual Charitable Giving: Over $1 million personally last year
4. Total Personal Giving to Date: Around $5 million
5. Current Liquid Net Worth: Approximately $5 million cash

You can go to Hampton’s blog to see the entire post and the podcast.

Or just comment “mike” and I’ll dm you the link.

Also...share these with buds. Because the more views they get, the more dopamine I get and the more likely I am to keep doing 'em.

I asked @thesamparr, founder of @hamptonfounders and @thehustledaily what his spiciest opinion was and he said this 👇

If you want to make more money and have a better career, get married early.

His explanation is the truth in my opinion.…

From my experience, I truly believe this – the right partner in life can bring out the best in you and help you reach goals you once thought were out of reach.

Tell me in the comments why he’s brutally right or wrong, and let me know who I should interview next👇

Follow for more words of wisdom and thanks for sharing Sam!!!!

Would you rather have a business that makes $500k/month in income or you sell it one time and make $18M?

@marshallhaas can tell you, and I think he made the right decision.

Comment “yes” if you want to see his financial breakdown plus the finances of 50+ founders from $10m to $3 billion.

How do you know if people want your product? Try selling it.

That sounds simple, but I think a lot of people waste time figuring out how to validate their ideas instead of pre-selling.

Dr. Becky Kennedy, a world-famous parenting expert, told me something that changed how I parent. Entitlement isn’t about being spoiled. It’s about being unable to handle frustration.

She told me about a 16-year-old kid who threw a tantrum when his family didn’t fly first class. Not because he was spoiled, but because he literally never had to deal with frustration.

Here’s the thing: if you’ve achieved success, you’ve probably optimized frustration out of your life. You’ve earned that. But your kids? They NEED frustration. It’s how they learn to overcome adversity.

I asked her if this meant I had to live some super simple life. She said no. Just ask yourself: “Where could I tolerate a little more frustration for my kids’ benefit?”

Maybe for you it’s waiting in line instead of making reservations. Or flying economy. Whatever it is, let your kids experience it WITH you.

I made a document with Dr. Becky’s insights plus net worth breakdowns and wealth insights from 70+ founders. Comment “yes” and I’ll send you the link
