You have to get comfortable being uncomfortable — and learn to recognize that discomfort is just a feeling, not reality. Your mind will want to quit before your body actually needs to. So how do you push through? Focus. If you’re thinking about work, what’s for dinner, or your to-do list during a max effort set, you’re already checked out. You need to be all in. Every ounce of your mental and physical energy should be locked into that lift. Next time you hit a top set, ask yourself: 👉 Am I really here right now? This isn’t to say you can have fun in the gym. When you’re not actively lifting, you don’t need to be locked in. But when it’s time, you need to be able to - you guessed it - flip the switch.
