Jacob Allmendinger, 21, spent the £10,000 (~$13,000) he saved over 5 years for a house deposit to take his 80-year-old grandfather Geoff to the 2026 World Cup in North America. 🥹⚽

The pair flew out of the UK on June 26 and are chasing England across cities including Philadelphia, Atlanta, Mexico City and Miami.

Jacob said: “I can always make money back. But I won’t ever get to go to the World Cup with my grandfather again.” 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

IF THIS HAPPENS!!!! 🤯🇲🇽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

According to @clarosports 🗞️, the Mexico vs England game on Sunday will be moved from 6pm to 12pm CDMX time (7pm local time in London, UK) due to expected thunderstorms later in the day!

Reports state this change is being considered both for climate considerations and safety concerns for fans post-game due to inclimate weather.

If this becomes official, this could potentially be another HUGE advantage in Mexico’s favor as noon is not only the HOTTEST time of the day in Mexico City, but it would give England even less time to acclimate to the conditions 😱

Mexico is making history at the 2026 World Cup. A commanding 2-0 win over Ecuador at a raucous Estadio Azteca on June 30 sent the co-hosts into the Round of 16, and it carried enormous weight: it was Mexico's first World Cup knockout victory in 40 years, since they last hosted in 1986, ending a drought that had brought heartbreak in seven straight tournaments.

The run has been total domination. El Tri have now won all four of their matches, three in the group stage plus the Ecuador tie, without conceding a single goal. That makes them the first side since hosts Italy in 1990 to open a World Cup with four straight wins to nil, and just the fourth team in the tournament's history to do it, the best start Mexico has ever produced.

Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez struck within nine first-half minutes, while 17-year-old Gilberto Mora earned a start, becoming the second-youngest player to begin a World Cup knockout match, behind only Pelé in 1958. Coach Javier Aguirre, twice denied a spot in the last 16 as a manager before, now leads a side unbeaten in 10 World Cup games at the Azteca. Next up: England or DR Congo, back in Mexico City on Sunday.

Mexico ended a 40-year World Cup knockout drought. ⚽️🇲🇽

El Tri beat Ecuador 2-0 in Mexico City on June 30, with first-half goals from Julián Quiñones and Raúl Jiménez sending the co-hosts into the 2026 World Cup round of 16. It was Mexico’s first men’s World Cup knockout win since a 2-0 victory over Bulgaria at the 1986 tournament.

Coach Javier Aguirre started in that 1986 side and now has Mexico through again on home soil. The result keeps Mexico in Mexico City for another knockout match on Sunday against the winner of England and DR Congo.

There are loud soccer crowds... and then there are Mexico soccer crowds.

Fans inside Mexico’s legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City erupted so loudly that they reportedly triggered an earthquake.

The ground movement caused by the celebration was strong enough to be picked up by seismic monitoring equipment as an “artificial seismic signal,” according to the New York Post.

The celebration came when Julián Quiñones buried the opening goal in the 22nd minute, sending tens of thousands of fans into a frenzy that literally shook the ground.

Raúl Jiménez added a second goal minutes later to seal the victory.

THIS IS HUGE 🍻

Pubs in England and Wales will now be allowed to stay open until 5am on Monday so supporters can watch England's World Cup last-16 clash against Mexico all the way to the final whistle.

The match kicks off at 1am UK time in Mexico City and isn't expected to finish until after 3am.

The government had initially said it would not extend licensing hours any further for the tournament, before reversing the decision on Thursday.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer said: "Football might be coming home but we're making sure fans don't have to."

The extended hours mean fans can watch the game in their local without pubs needing to apply for a temporary licence extension.

FIFA is considering bringing forward the kick-off time of England’s World Cup round-of-16 game against Mexico at the Estadio Azteca.

Extreme weather has already impacted one match in Mexico City during this World Cup. Kick off in Mexico’s round-of-32 tie against Ecuador was pushed back by an hour due to thunder and lightning in the surrounding area.

FIFA’s 2026 World Cup regulations state that world football’s governing body “has the right to cancel, reschedule or relocate one or more matches (or the entire FIFA World Cup 26) for any reason at its sole discretion, including as a result of force majeure or due to health, safety or security concerns.”

The Mexico-England game being brought forward to 2pm ET/7pm BST means it may overlap with the day’s other last-16 tie between Brazil and Norway, which is due to begin at 4pm ET/9pm BST at MetLife Stadium

Mexican fans gathered outside Ecuador’s team hotel overnight ahead of Tuesday’s World Cup Round of 32 clash, using loudspeakers, air horns and revving motorcycles in an apparent attempt to keep the visiting squad awake.

The disturbance took place outside the Westin Hotel in Santa Fe, Mexico City, where dozens of supporters remained from around midnight into the early morning after organizing the gathering on social media.

The tactic, commonly known as a “hotel serenade,” is a long-standing and controversial tradition in Latin American soccer, where home fans create noise outside opposing teams’ hotels to disrupt their rest before matches.

Traders predict a 43% chance Mexico will beat Ecuador tonight.

There are loud soccer crowds... and then there are Mexico soccer crowds. Fans inside Mexico's legendary Estadio Azteca in Mexico City erupted so loudly that they reportedly triggered an earthquake. The ground movement caused by the celebration was strong enough to be picked up by seismic monitoring equipment as an "artificial seismic signal," according to the New York Post. The celebration came when Julián Quiñones buried the opening goal in the 22nd minute, sending tens of thousands of fans into a frenzy that literally shook the ground. Raúl Jiménez added a second goal minutes later to seal the victory.

Thank you @airbnb for showing me a side of Mexico City I never would have found on my own. ❤️ #AirbnbPartner

I came here for the soccer.

I left talking about tacos, Lucha Libre, neighbourhoods full of fútbol history, and the people who brought this city to life.

The match was unforgettable, but these were the moments that made the trip feel personal.

Sometimes the best travel memories happen outside the itinerary.

The world is meant to meet.

Halfway through the year and my heart is so full.

These are just a few of my favorite moments from the last 6 months. The smiles on everyone’s faces say more than I ever could.

This year I’ve had the absolute pleasure of helping families relocate to Texas from Mexico City, New Jersey, Michigan, Colorado, New Mexico, Maine, Kentucky, and also helping so many sweet local clients start new chapters right here at home.

The trust people place in me during such a big life change is something I’ll never take lightly. I’m truly so so grateful. Behind every closing is a lot of hard work, late nights, negotiations, problem solving, and tons of prayer!!

By God’s grace I’ve closed over $11.5M so far this year, but what truly fills my heart are the people and the relationships behind it.

Thank You Jesus, for every door You’ve opened and continuing to fulfill dreams I once only prayed for. I’m so grateful, and so excited for what’s still to come. 🤍

Verse of the Day✝️: “Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.”
Proverbs 16:3

Thank you @airbnb for inviting me to experience Mexico City during the World Cup. ❤️ #AirbnbPartner

Mexico City owes me absolutely nothing.

I came here expecting to fall in love with the soccer, but I ended up falling in love with the people, the culture, the city, and the moments that happened outside the stadium.

Sometimes the best part of travelling isn’t what you planned for.

It’s what you never saw coming.
