And heres why it matters Consumer spending is about 70% of the entire us economy so when spending slows down, our whole economy slows down. Its really that simple This morning retail sales rose 0.5% which is still a good sign that consumers are still opening their wallet despite record low consumer sentiment Second report is initial jobless claims. It counts how many Americans filed for unemployment for the very first time this week. Think of it as the earliest warning signal for the job market so kinda like a check engine light for the economy If this number is climbing, companies are cutting. If its low, people still have jobs. And the numbers increased by 12,000 which is still okay. Economists are calling this environment “low-hire, low fire” Together they paint the full picture of where the average American stands right now. And right now that picture matters more than ever.
