@uglydesign is one of the clearest examples of how an internet-era project becomes stylistic canon. What began in 2008 as a kitchen-table Blogspot experiment by Swiss designers Jonas Nyffenegger and Sébastien Mathys has evolved into a long-running visual archive of objects that confuse, provoke, or amuse. AI. In their interview with Amanda Breeze (@amandabreeeze), they reflect on how their curatorial instincts developed, why certain bad ideas endure, and what it means to curate contradictions without hierarchy. As Breeze puts it, “Timing and context mattered, and as fashion and design began to embrace idiosyncrasy and challenge conventional notions of beauty, Ugly Design was perfectly positioned to capture it.”⁣

What will culture look like in 2026? What will we wear? How will we use social media? How will we connect? What will happen with AI? How much protein will we eat? Are skinny jeans coming back?⁣

A film rejected by Sundance for being too risky? That still happens. Sex, shame, power, and moral ambiguity all collide in “Blue Film”, Elliot Tuttle’s deeply uncomfortable debut feature following a sex worker spending the night with his former middle school teacher. At the link in bio, @elliottuttle talks to @iana.murray about making a film the industry didn’t quite know what to do with.⁣

Derrick Gee doesn’t call himself a critic, he calls himself a “professional music fan.” In just two years, the Sydney-based creator has gone from sharing playlists to interviewing Lorde, Jamie xx, and St. Vincent in his home studio. This June, he took his love of deep cuts on a four-city European tour: part music talk show, part listening session. At the link in bio, @hyunji_nam talks to @gee_derrick about niche genres, resisting algorithms, and why good taste should still feel personal.⁣

He’s one of our greatest living world-builders, an artist responsible for giving us Metal Gear and now Death Stranding. But Hideo Kojima (@hideo_kojima) rarely finds inspiration from video games; you’re much more likely to find him at a museum looking at art.
