This weekend offered a clear lesson in how movie distribution is changing. Markiplier’s independently financed film Iron Lung earned approximately $22 million worldwide after he promoted it directly to his 38 million YouTube subscribers. Markiplier has said he spent a few million dollars making the movie, meaning it has already turned a huge profit. By comparison, Amazon reportedly spent around $75 million to produce and market Melania, which brought in about $7 million at the box office. This does not mean Hollywood is about to disappear.
