Would the Spurs have won if Chris Paul was on the roster?
For the 2026 Spurs specifically, Chris Paul would have been an incredibly valuable piece even if he wasn’t putting up star numbers anymore.
The biggest reason is leadership. The 2026 Spurs were built around an extremely young core led by Victor Wembanyama, Stephon Castle, and Dylan Harper. Having one of the smartest point guards in NBA history to guide that group through big playoff moments would have been huge. Paul has always excelled at controlling pace, settling teams down during runs, and making sure everyone is in the right spot.
On the court, his chemistry with Wembanyama was already evident when they played together. Paul consistently found Wemby for easy baskets and helped maximize his strengths. At one point, he had assisted on more of Wembanyama’s points than any other passer in the league, while also serving as a constant source of feedback and mentorship.
