The 2018 Boston Red Sox should be considered as one of the greatest teams in MLB history.

They won 108 games in the regular season.

Boston even did more damage in the Postseason, only losing once in each series.

The teams they defeated are also no pushovers:

The Yankees won 100 regular-season games.
The Astros won 103 regular-season games.
And the Dodgers won 92 regular-season games.

Red Sox Nation was rightfully excited, since the core was relatively intact and was expected to contend for years to come.

But things started to go downhill from there.

The Red Sox stumbled to a 2-8 record to open the 2019 season, a start they could not recover from, and finished 3rd in the always-competitive American League East.

President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski was fired just 10 months after winning the World Series.

Franchise cornerstones Mookie Betts and Rafael Devers were traded in 2020 and 2025, respectively, in what was seen as a cost-cutting move by the Fenway Sports Group, led by John Henry.

And just this past weekend, manager Alex Cora, along with the majority of his coaching staff, was relieved of their duties with the squad sitting dead last in the American League East.

Trevor Story expressed his displeasure at the seeming lack of direction the proud franchise has taken.

"I mean obviously, it's kind of up in the air what the true direction of the franchise is. Some of the best coaches in the world didn't get a fair shot."

Story went further and showed support to the now former manager of the Red Sox.

"He had our backs every single day. He was very truthful with players and took bullets for us and did everything you can ask for and more as a manager. I just can't express how thankful I am to have played for him. Yeah, I've got a love for that guy."

A good portion of Red Sox Nation has also shown dissatisfaction with the front office, with chants of “sell the team!” heard at Fenway Park during home games 👀
