Washington is building a mineral bunker.
In an attempt to blunt China's grip on critical supply chains, Trump is set to launch a strategic stockpile of critical minerals. It'll be made up of gallium, cobalt, and rare earths used in everything from smartphones to jet engines.
The initiative, dubbed "Project Vault," aims to protect US manufacturers from supply shocks and wild price swings as Washington tries to wean itself off Chinese-dominated markets.
For the White House, the bet is that locking in long-term prices and inventories now could mean fewer factory shutdowns (and fewer headaches) the next time Beijing tightens the tap.
