When Pusha T made the iconic “I’m Lovin It” jingle and later dissed McDonalds 🍔

In 2003, McDonald’s launched its iconic “I’m Lovin’ It” campaign. Justin Timberlake became the face of the campaign and recorded an “I’m Lovin’ It” song, with The Neptunes also involved in the music.

Behind the scenes, Pusha T and his brother Malice, together as Clipse, also worked on music for the campaign. This wasn’t widely known until 2016, when music executive Steve Stoute publicly credited Pusha with helping create the famous jingle. Pusha later said he & Malice were paid around $1 million for their work.

The brothers took the money upfront & didn’t keep publishing rights or receive future royalties. Pusha later called the deal a “super L” and said their payment was “peanuts for as long as that’s been running.” “I’m Lovin’ It” eventually became McDonald’s longest-running slogan.

Pusha T & Stoute have said he was involved with the jingle, but others involved with the campaign dispute that he created the famous “ba da ba ba ba” melody. Pusha also isn’t listed as a songwriter on Justin Timberlake’s recording.

Nearly 20 years later, Pusha T partnered with McDonald’s rival Arby’s. In March 2022, he released the 75-second “Spicy Fish Diss Track,” where he attacked McDonald’s Filet-O-Fish while promoting Arby’s fish sandwich.

Later that year, Pusha worked with Arby’s again on another diss track, this time going after the McRib while promoting Arby’s Real Country Style Rib Sandwich.
