Bill Gates abruptly pulled out of delivering a keynote at New Delhi's high-profile AI Impact Summit just hours before he was set to take the stage, citing a need to "ensure the focus" remained on the event itself.
The Gates Foundation offered no detailed explanation, but the timing comes amid renewed scrutiny over Gates' past ties to Jeffrey Epstein. The fresh controversy follows a Justice Department release of roughly 3 million Epstein-related emails, including draft messages alleging Gates requested help concealing an STI, which Gates has flatly denied as "absolutely absurd and completely false." Gates has acknowledged meeting Epstein after his 2008 conviction but says he never visited Epstein's island or engaged in any improper conduct, calling the relationship a "serious error in judgment."
Instead of speaking, Gates was replaced by a senior foundation executive, while the foundation reiterated its commitment to India.
The news also comes at the same time that Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly Prince Andrew) was arrested over misconduct suspicions in relation to Epstein.
