The Warriors' 2-timeline plan didn't quite work out.
Let's rewind back to the summer of 2022.
The Warriors had just won a title on the backs of Steph, Klay, Draymond, and Wiggins.
But the front office wanted to balance a "2-timeline" plan - continue to win now with the vets, while also developing a young core...
...so that the kids would be elite and ready to take over when the vets retired or declined.
Their young core?
๐ Poole had put up 18 PPG and looked like a breakout star
๐ Jonathan Kuminga had limitless upside with his athleticism
๐ Moses Moody looked like a strong defensive wing
๐ James Wiseman was dealing with injuries, but still had potential
And yet... it didn't quite pan out.
Fast forward 4 years, and 3 of the 4 aren't on the team anymore.
Poole had jumped from the Wizards to the Pelicans, where he's putting up 14 PPG this year.
Wiseman isn't on an NBA team after the Pacers released him.
Kuminga grew unhappy with his role in Golden State, and was dealt to the Hawks.
Only Moses Moody remains.
Meanwhile, Steph Curry is turning 38 next month, is still scoring 27 PPG, and is an All-Star starter.
Eventually, the Warriors' front office gave up on 2 timelines, and went all-in on Steph. Trading for Butler last year... being willing to give up the house for Giannis this year...
Some have argued that's what they should've been doing all along - building around Steph, who's somehow still elite at 37.
It was an interesting experiment.
But Golden State now hopes a 30-year-old Kristaps Porzingis can inject some life into a Warriors team that's refocusing on 1 timeline.
