It's time to revisit the Luka trade.
After 29 total games of AD, the Mavs traded him just a year after they got him.
So here's an updated look at what Dallas ended up getting for Luka Dončić:
🔸 Max Christie
🔸 Khris Middleton
🔸 AJ Johnson
🔸 Malaki Branham
🔸 Marvin Bagley III
🔸 3 first round picks
🔸 3 second round picks
Most of those picks came from the AD trade to the Wizards. The Mavs, of course, famously, only got one first rounder from the Lakers in the Luka deal.
Keep in mind this was Luka's résumé when the Mavs traded him away:
⭐️ 5x All-Star
⭐️ 5x All-NBA First Team
⭐️ 1x scoring champ
⭐️ Career averages of 28/8/8
⭐️ Just led Mavs to NBA Finals
On the bright side, Dallas now has the means to build completely around Cooper Flagg.
They still have their potential lottery pick in the 2026 draft, as well as a potential late first rounder (OKC's pick).
They only have $150M in guaranteed money next year, which is well below the luxury tax and both aprons.
So there's plenty of room to build through the draft, free agency, or trades moving forward.
Losing Luka stings. It always will.
Looking at their return doesn't make it any better.
But they do have a rising star in Cooper Flagg - and they can put the past behind them.
