The fathers of two girls killed in the Southport attack have completed the London Marathon side by side, in a powerful show of strength and friendship.
Sergio Aguiar and David Stancombe crossed the line together in four hours and 36 minutes, having both said running has helped them cope with their loss. Their daughters, Alice Da Silva Aguiar, nine, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, died alongside six-year-old Bebe King in July 2024. Before the race, the pair were honoured with the Spirit of London Marathon Award, granting them a place for life.
Sergio, who now runs to “spread her magic”, has completed seven marathons in Alice’s memory, while David has raised funds through Elsie’s Story to support children and families. The pair, who first ran as “two dads”, said this year they ran as “two friends” after growing close through their shared journey.
