Alright, time to talk about the iPhone Duo after its first full weekend of use. (And no, I’m not sponsored by Apple.)
01: The hardware is seriously impressive.
Apple nailed the build quality, hinge, and how ridiculously thin it is when unfolded. The crease is barely noticeable, and opening it up to that 7.6-inch display still feels so satisfying.
It’s been a long time since a new phone made me this excited to pick it up. It actually feels new, and we needed that lol.
02: The front screen takes some getting used to.
You’ll probably use the outer screen 90% of the time. At 5.4 inches, it’s a big change from a Pro Max.
For emails, quick texts, and notifications, it’s perfect. Instagram, Reels, and anything that needs more room feel cramped. The inner screen is incredible, but some apps still have awkward layouts or black bars. I’m sure that’ll improve, but it’s driving me insane right now.
OH, AND NO FACE ID?! Absolutely brutal. 😂 I thought this would drive me crazy, but I’m already getting used to Touch ID on the power button. Still miss Face ID a lot. Major step back.
03: The cameras are a step backwards.
Coming from the iPhone 18 Pro Max, you’re giving up a dedicated telephoto lens, ProRAW, and some of Apple’s more advanced camera features. The 48MP main camera and ultrawide are capable, but this isn’t a Pro-level camera system.
That said, I’m a photographer and almost always have a real camera with me. My phone has never been my main camera, so it’s a compromise I can live with. Would I love the 18 Pro Max cameras in here, especially at this price? Absolutely.
Final thoughts? Incredible hardware. A few compromises. A lot of potential.
I’m not convinced it’s the perfect phone yet, but I’m excited to keep using it. 🫡
