NASA’s Artemis II mission lifted off from Kennedy Space Center on April 1 at 6:35 p.m. ET, sending four astronauts on a 10 day journey around the Moon in the first crewed lunar mission in over 53 years. The crew includes NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, and Christina Koch, along with Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. The mission has already set several historic firsts: Glover has become the first Black astronaut to travel to the Moon, Koch the first woman to venture this far from Earth, and Hansen the first non American in history to go beyond low Earth orbit. The flyby is designed to test the Orion spacecraft’s life support systems, navigation, and performance in deep space conditions including radiation, extreme temperatures, and communication blackouts, all with a crew on board for the first time. If this mission goes as planned, it will pave the way for Artemis III, which aims to land astronauts on the Moon for the first time since Apollo 17 in December 1972, including the first woman to ever walk on the lunar surface. #hosted #pubity #viral
