What a ride… thank you, Ryan Searle and darts family 💙🎯

We’re still a little bit speechless. In just a few weeks, Ryan Searle gave ADOA a global stage at the PDC World Darts Championship – for himself, his daughter and everyone living with this rare eye condition.

By sharing his story with Viaplay’s Arjan van der Giessen, thousands of viewers learned about Autosomal Dominant Optic Atrophy (ADOA) for the very first time.

Thanks to Ryan, Arjan and Viaplay:
・1,000+ darts fans donated over €20,000 to the Cure ADOA Foundation
・Harrows backed the campaign with a donation of £15,000
・Paddy Power (main tournament sponsor) donated €15,000
・In the semi-final, Paddy Power blurred its logo and ad boards so viewers could experience a hint of Ryan’s blurred vision.

The impact went far beyond Ally Pally. Ryan’s story and ADOA were featured by AD, BBC, NU.NL, Sky Sports, ESPN, and many, many more, resulting in dozens of articles across the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Poland and beyond. Our chair Hedy Smit was even invited on BBC Radio 5 Live, bringing the patient perspective and our mission to a new audience.

For our small patient organisation, this meant a huge spike in web & social reach, thousands of new messages worldwide, donations for research on our Road To Treatment—and most importantly: new ADOA families who found our community.

To everyone who helped make this happen:
・Ryan & family for your courage, openness and unstoppable darts
・Arjan & Viaplay for giving ADOA a platform across your channels
・Harrows for standing behind Ryan and our foundation
・Paddy Power for your generous donation and creative blurred-logo statement
・And of course: every darts fan who donated, shared, commented or simply took the time to learn what ADOA is

Thank you for turning a rare, usually invisible, disease into a world-wide story.
