Officially opening to the public on Juneteenth and nearly a decade after Barack and Michelle Obama first unveiled the vision, the Obama Presidential Center is welcoming visitors to a new kind of presidential campus on Chicago’s South Side.
Designed as “exactly the opposite of all presidential libraries,” the 19-acre campus features a museum, library branch, gardens, playgrounds, and public gathering spaces centered around community, learning, and play.
“Twenty years from now, 30 years from now, I want young people… to look at this center and say, ‘This is a sign I count, and this is a sign that I can change the world.’”
