Hyundai is quickening its march to becoming a full-line automaker that builds most of its North American lineup with a majority of parts that are made in the U.S.
At the company’s annual meeting in South Korea on March 26, Hyundai Motor Co. CEO Jose Muñoz told shareholders that the automaker’s goal by 2030 is to build 80 percent of the vehicles it sells in the U.S. domestically and assemble those vehicles with about 80 percent U.S. supply chain content.
About half of the vehicles Hyundai sold in the U.S. last year were built here, according to AutoForecast Solutions. While Hyundai declined to comment on the current percentage of vehicles sold in the U.S. that are built in the country, it said about 60 percent of its parts are sourced from the U.S. today.
