Mayor Zohran Mamdani delivered his first Fourth of July address as New York City mayor Friday, using the occasion to reflect on America’s 250th anniversary.
Speaking from behind George Washington’s desk at City Hall and surrounded by recently naturalized U.S. citizens, Mamdani celebrated immigration, rejected politics rooted in division and called on Americans to continue striving toward the ideals the country was founded on.
The speech came just hours before President Donald Trump was scheduled to deliver his own America 250 address at Mount Rushmore, offering two very different visions for the country’s future.
