On September 1, 2026, John Ternus senior vice president of Hardware Engineering will become the new CEO of Apple. John will take over the role of Tim Cook who will become executive chairman of Apple’s board of directors! John joined Apple’s product design team in 2001 and became a vice president of Hardware Engineering in 2013. He joined the executive team in 2021 as senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. He was instrumental in the introduction of multiple new product lines, including iPad and AirPods, as well as many generations of products across iPhone, Mac, and Apple Watch. Tim said: “John Ternus has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with integrity and with honor. He is a visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years are already too numerous to count, and he is without question the right person to lead Apple into the future. I could not be more confident in his abilities and his character, and I look forward to working closely with him on this transition and in my new role as executive chairman.” Tim Cook joined Apple in 1998 and became CEO in 2011. Since then, he has led the launch of major products and services, including entirely new categories like Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple Vision Pro, alongside services such as iCloud, Apple Pay, Apple TV+, and Apple Music. He also played a key role in strengthening Apple’s existing product lines. Under his leadership, Apple’s market value has surged from around $350 billion to $4 trillion, an increase of over 1,000%, while annual revenue has nearly quadrupled, rising from $108 billion in 2011 to more than $416 billion in 2025. The company has significantly expanded its global presence, now operating in over 200 countries and territories, with more than 500 retail stores worldwide. During this period, Apple has added over 100,000 employees and grown its active device base to more than 2.5 billion. Having briefly spoken with John, I’m sure he’s the right person for the job. I’m excited to see how Apple will flourish under his leadership! #johnternus #timcook #apple
