Three months ago, my 75 year old dad decided to do stand up for the first time in his life. We’d been talking about it for five years.
He opened for me at my show in Mumbai, and the second he got off stage I told him: you need to do this for real. So I called @balrajghai, he got up and did a full set @indiehabitat.
And I’m not saying this because he’s my dad. He was funny. Like, naturally, unmistakably supposed to be on stage funny. Watching him up there, I finally understood exactly where I got this from.
He’s an ophthalmologist by profession. Comedy has been his dream this whole time. I didn’t follow him into medicine, but he followed me into comedy instead. I think that’s just how modern parent and kid relationships go now.
Happy Father’s Day, Dad. Legend for finally getting on that stage. Legend for being this talented and not telling anyone for forty years. And legend for just being the best father I could’ve asked for.
