Celebrate International Women’s Day with the women who have shaped the BMW Art Car legacy.
To mark 50 years of the #BMWArtCar initiative, the BMW Art Car World Tour brings the iconic collection to audiences across Europe, Asia, Africa, and beyond, featuring Art Cars by Julie Mehretu, Esther Mahlangu, Jenny Holzer, and Cao Fei.
The most recent addition to the BMW Art Car collection came in 2024, when Julie Mehretu transformed the BMW M Hybrid V8. She follows a powerful lineage of women artists within the program. In 1991, Esther Mahlangu became the first female BMW Art Car artist, painting Art Car 12 with her signature Ndebele patterns. Jenny Holzer continued that momentum in 1996 with Art Car 15, transforming her text-based conceptual practice into motion. In 2017, Cao Fei reimagined the BMW M6 GT3, merging contemporary media and culture with pure racing power.
