Travis Pastrana backflipped a dirt bike over the South Lawn of the White House, pulling off one of the more surreal stunts ever staged on the grounds. The Nitro Circus founder performed the jump as part of the UFC event President Donald Trump hosted at the White House, an octagon built on the lawn to mark the nation's 250th anniversary, which also fell on the president's birthday weekend.
The stunt began as a long shot. Pastrana pitched it to UFC CEO Dana White at a Power Slap event, fully expecting to be laughed off. "You grabbed me at Power Slap and said, 'I want to do a backflip on the South Lawn of the White House,'" White recalled. Instead, he called in a favor from the Oval Office and made it happen, with Pastrana hauling in custom-built ramps to clear the height needed to frame the mansion behind him.
He did not go alone. Pastrana brought a crew of motocross and FMX legends, including Ricky Carmichael, Brian Deegan, Jeremy "Twitch" Stenberg, and Jeremy McGrath. The Annapolis native skipped a rally event the same day, a choice that could cost him a season championship, to take the once-in-a-lifetime jump.
