This is not the Basquiat most people know.
A rare exhibition of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s early works is coming to Brooklyn this May, offering a look at his life before the fame.
Opening May 16 at the Bishop Gallery, the show focuses on pieces from his late-’70s and early-’80s era, when he was still building his name in NYC.
The exhibition also features archives from people who knew him personally, capturing the moment just before his rise into one of the most influential artists of his generation.
By the way, we have a weekly newsletter with what’s worth knowing about and doing in New York City. One newsletter. Once a week. Link in bio.
