Iran has pulled out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after Sports Minister Ahmad Donyamali said participation is impossible following the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in U.S. and Israeli airstrikes.
“Considering that this corrupt regime has assassinated our leader, under no circumstances can we participate in the World Cup,” Donyamali told state television.
Traders predict a 58% chance Iran will be officially removed from the World Cup by the end of March.
