Who remembers when downtown Phoenix was a Formula One track? ๐๏ธ๐ต
For three years, from 1989 to 1991, the United States Grand Prix ran through the streets near Phoenix Civic Plaza and America West Arena, turning the heart of the city into a full street circuit.
Legends like Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost raced here, with Senna winning 2 of the 3 Phoenix races in 1990 and 1991 for McLaren.
The race was eventually dropped due to low attendance and venue changes, including the construction of Bank One Ballpark, but for a brief moment, Phoenix was officially on the Formula One calendar.
