At CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week, StudioCanal announced that a fourth Paddington film is in the works. The crowd, by all accounts, was delighted. The first two films, directed by Paul King, are widely considered among the best British films of the past two decades. Paddington 2 holds a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It is a film about an immigrant bear who sees the best in everyone and refuses to let the world make him cynical. Critics called it one of the most purely joyful films ever made. The franchise has now quietly earned over $400 million across three films. Ben Whishaw continues to voice Paddington. StudioCanal, which owns the rights, had already signalled a fourth film was coming at a licensing convention in 2024, estimating a 2027 or 2028 release to coincide with the character’s 70th anniversary. The bear first appeared in Michael Bond’s books in 1958. He arrived at Paddington Station with a note around his neck that read “Please look after this bear.” Sixty-seven years later, people still are. #reelheadline #pubity #viral
