According to an alert reviewed by ABC News, authorities were informed that as early as February 2026, Iran allegedly aspired to carry out a surprise drone attack, which was identified by the U.S. Coast Guard, potentially targeting locations in California if the U.S. carried out strikes against the country.

Officials said there is currently no additional information about the timing, specific targets, method, or who would carry out the alleged attack. Gov. Newsom says his administration is aware of potential threats from Iran targeting California with drones. Newsom confirmed that the California Office of Emergency Services is sharing information with local law enforcement in real time. “Drone issues have always been top of mind,” he said, noting that work groups have been assembled specifically to address these concerns.
