They successfully defended their title in 2020 where Leerdam made her individual breakthrough by taking 1000m gold.
Leerdam returned to the top of the podium at the 2022 World Sprint Championships shortly after the Olympic Games with wins in the overall sprints, and the team sprint.
She regained her 1000m title at the 2023 World Single Distances Championships and added 500m bronze to her medal collection.
In 2024, Leerdam won her fifth European title and individual bronze at the World Sprint Championships.

As two-time reigning European 1000m champion, Leerdam went into her Olympic debut at Beijing 2022 among the medal favourites. The flying Dutchwoman managed to take silver behind Japan’s Takagi Miho, but a hand down on the ice with just over a lap to go may have cost her gold.
