On Yom HaShoah I was humbled to visit the Kupferberg Holocaust Center at Queensborough Community College to learn from Manfred Korman — a survivor of the Kindertransport — as well as scholars, researchers, and CUNY leaders.

On Yom HaShoah we remember the six million Jewish victims of the Nazis' systematic program of mass murder, along with the millions of others murdered by Hitler's regime. New York City is home to more Holocaust survivors than anywhere else in this country, and their resilience is woven into the fabric of our city.

The horror of the Holocaust was made possible by systems of hatred and dehumanization that still echo in our society today. As antisemitism rises once more, remembrance is not enough. We must confront hate wherever it appears. "Never again" is a promise. And it is one we must fight to keep.
