Donkey Kong did something no other video game character has ever done π
In 2007, Monster Jam worked with Nintendo under an official license to bring the character to life as a full scale monster truck. This was not just branding. The entire body was custom built to look like Donkey Kong, complete with giant ears, a wide mouth on the hood, and his signature red tie hanging from the front, all sitting on a 1500 horsepower machine.
Driven by Frank Krmel, who said it felt more like a dream than a job, the truck debuted in Minneapolis and went on to compete in back to back Monster Jam World Finals in Las Vegas.
It was retired in 2010, and no other video game character has made the jump to Monster Jam since.
