Stopped by @AstorPlaceHairstylists, aka the “United Nations of Haircutters,” to ask what the American Dream actually looks like in New York today.
This barber shop has been around for nearly a century, and at any given moment you’ve got barbers from dozens of countries working side by side. Different languages, different backgrounds, all in one room, so it felt like the right place to ask the question. Former manager Big Mike Saviello, who ran the place for over 40 years, always said it’s the best place to watch the World Cup because everyone in here is riding for their respective country.
This month, @vicesports is celebrating what the American Dream and New York City means to soccer.
