If you’ve followed for a long time, you know that @randyorton is one of my top ten favorite wrestlers. I know that for some people it feels underwhelming that he’s in the main event of WrestleMania in 2026. He’s a legend, though, and someone I think we all appreciate.
As a Randy Orton and @cmpunk guy, I’m very excited for this year. Two of my all-timers against two of the modern era’s top stars. If you’re as old as me or around my age, you probably remember the frustration of not getting dream matches like Hogan vs. Hart, Savage vs. Hart, Savage vs. Michaels, etc., at the turn of an era.
You know those matches where the star from the previous era passes the torch to the next era. We’ve been spoiled with those moments over the last 25 years, and I don’t take them for granted.
Plus we’ve wanted a high-profile Cody Rhodes vs Randy Orton match since Cody returned. They’ve been teasing it ever since.
Selfishly, I want Orton to get to 17 world titles too. I think he’s just as deserving of that honor as John Cena. I’m not saying he’s going to win at WrestleMania, but I wouldn’t be mad at it.
There are a ton of great wrestlers from the modern era but Orton’s one of my OG’s. Someone who was around when I was young enough to look up to wrestlers. I got a bunch of “Randy Orton inspired me to do this” stories from when I was younger.
Might have not been the greatest influence but I turned out to be fine. 😅
